    Revert back to the known working firmware before giving up.  Updating the firmware of a wireless router is a bad idea if its not already broke.  ''if it aint broke, dont fix it.   Also go back to factory restore if all else fails. check this out too. . . http://www.eggxpert.com/forums/thread/248285.aspx

    You also need to experiment with the routers operating frequencies.  They can catch interference with 2.4GH phones and cell phones waaayyy to easily.

    If you are worried about people accessing your network from the outside then why not setup your router to filter based on mac adresses?  very effective and will compliment wireless encryptions for security purposes.
