  • What power supply for Dell Inspiron 531?

I'm looking to upgrade my Dell Inspiron 531 and buy a video card for the pci express x16 slot, but the power supply it comes with is only 300 watts. I want a decent card so I'm pretty sure I'm going to need to upgrade my power supply, but I'm worried about what type of PSU could fit into an Inspiron 531 case. If someone could pick me out a power ...

  • XP & Vista Dual Boot

I have an old gateway with XP installed on it and was wondering if I could transfer the OS to a new computer and buy the Vista upgrade disc as opposed to the retail version to save a couple of bucks.  Is this possible? I've heard that OEM versions of OS' ''stick'' to only one motherboard...Does anyone know if the transfer and upgrade DVD ...

  • Tripped up at the finish line

Hey all: I was just about to pull the trigger on my new build (still waffling on one component) and decided to do a last minute check on compatibility of all programs/components.  I was going to get Vista 64 for the OS.  Then I discovered my old scanner (Epson 6420) is NOT compatible with any 64 bit OS.  Nuts and other ...

  • Re: New Desktop Virtual Server Build (DFI + Q6600)

UncleVic: Exception #2: Both Vista SP1 x64 and Windows Server 2008 x64 cannot be installed; they hang early in the boot process with an infinitely repeating small green left-to-right progress bar. Making Progress.. With more ''countless hours trying to troubleshoot'', I determine that the problem is with the JMicron onboard RAID controller ...

Update on this machine: With two exceptions, it's running very well.  WinXP x86 SP3, Win2003 x86 SP2, and Win2003 x64 SP2 all very stable.  Both Win2003's see all of the 8GB I have on the machine.  And the RAID10 architecture on the ICH9R southbridge is also doing quite well (I'm running several SQL Server projects on it). ...

  • Dual Boot in RAID 0

I currently have XP pro installed on a RAID-0 set up using a 680i-SLI. I have already created a partition for the new OS. I would like to install Vista on this partition and have a dual boot set-up. Has anyone done this? If so, is there anything I need to do before I install Vista? I slipstreamed my original install of XP Pro with the RAID ...

  • System randomly powers off

My system is randomly powering off... checking the event logs indicates that it is not a software issue.  I originally figured it was the mobo and had it replaced.  Now, I'm wondering if it is the power supply.  Does anyone have any information for debugging this type of issue (I don't have another PSU to use)??  Here are some ...
