I'm am a novice looking to build a non-Microsoft desktop for simple office use. I can't quite find what I want from any system sellers. I plan to run OpenOffice, Firefox, Acrobat and an opensource email package on Ubuntu. That's pretty much it. No games, no high-end graphics. No high compute demnds. Very simple, reasonably fast ...

I know you've received some questions about Linux support already, but here are the questions I would like to hear about:
Q: As different Linux distributions are more widely used and Open Source software is more widely accepted, what is the long-term vision for support for that community?
Q: In the short term, does nVidia have plans to add ...

I don't know how much of this is true or speculation from what I have learned so bare with me... and feel free to correct/reword anything on these subjects, but these are the biggest things i've been wondering about for a while...
2 part Q: It has come to my attention that Nvidia has made most of the card ''manufacturers'' little more than ...

Excerpt from the GNU Manifesto:
'' I consider that the golden rule requires that if I like a program I must share it with other people who like it. Software sellers want to divide the users and conquer them, making each user agree not to share with others. I refuse to break solidarity with other users in this way. I cannot in good ...

I would say that this mobo and processor will work with Ubuntu. I have some components that are similar and they work perfectly fine with Ubuntu 7.04/7.10 [and I'm guessing all other versions too]. So far the only processor that Ubuntu cannot handle is the AMD Phenom without a clean install.

I would like to upgrade my motherboard and CPU to the following;http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103774http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130068
My main concern is the compatibility with Ubuntu.
Will it be 100% compatible?

suppose I wanted to dual boot XP and Ubuntu, and I have 2 160gb HDD's in RAID 0. Well, Ubuntu does not read my HDD's as a RAID array, just 2 separate partitions. So, before installing Ubuntu, I used the live cd, downloaded dmraid from the universal repository, then I made my ext3 partition and linux swap on the HDD that didn't ...

When I installed Ubuntu I manually set up the partitions and in the instructions it said I
only had to have two partitions, one for swap and the main one. I am running two Seagate hard drives both
250GB's. Here are my partitions so far in the correct sequence. First HD: Windows XP (30GB), Linux main (30GB), ...

I've been deployed somewhere out in the Middle East for the past few
months, and decided that some of my hard earned money should go towards
the Geek inside me. What would a normal geek do? Build a new home
server of course! Money was an object to a point, but more than
anything I wanted a relaible and quality built system that would ...

I don't have Linux INSTALLED at the moment on my hard drive but I have a couple Ubuntuu and Knoppix Live CDs, but what I mostly use is BackTrack 2 which I have bootable on my flash drive. I also have a bunch of distos that I don't use like Mandriva LX, Fedora Core, Red Hat, SuSE, and Gentoo (Plus). Lol, I even have Solaris 11 but I don't ...
