  • Re: Problem printing Lightscribe labels

First, I apologize for not getting back to you sooner.  I guess at this point I would see if I could find someone who would let me try my external drive on their computer.  If you get the same problem then I would strongly suspect the drive (and I would initially check with a much cheaper DVD than a Lightscribe DVD since they don't work ...

  • BIOS?

I don't know any detailed specs off the top of my head, but if you need them, I'll find out. My PC has a motherboard that's about 3-4 years old. I bought a WD SATA 160GB hard drive to replace my old IDE (same brand and size), and I'm on my second one because the first one was not recognized. I waited a few weeks to get a replacement only to find ...

  • How to RAID and The differences between RAID 0,1,2

Hi, I am a novice builder.  I've built 5-6 computers but I have never done a RAID setup.  I am looking how to RAID my hard drives.  I am pretty much updating an older computer that I currently use.  I have two 80GB WD drives and one 250GB WD drive.  I want to setup the two 80GB drives into a RAID setup.  I don't know ...

  • New build errors then hangs verifying DMI pool

I built a new computer for my parents and it posted. I set it to run the HDD as SATA rather then IDE. It posted and started the XP install process. While it was going through the motions of prepping for the install, I got an error that said something along the lines of, ''Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer one.'' I ...

  • Re: Help choosing ODD (disk drive)

Like the others said PATA is old technology, SATA is newer and superior.  If you go SATA, check out the drive.  You want one listed as SATA II (300Mbs transfer), and your motherboard must support this as well.  Data cable must be SATA II rated.  There are some speed enhancements such as NCQ, but you must change settings in your ...

  • IDE Sata question

I got really excited when the latest blow out sale had a Seagate 320 G Sata HD on sale.  So I purchased it for my PC.  Then I decided that I rather have it for my notebook computer, and went online and purchased the AMS enclosure for the HD, not realizing that it's IDE and not Sata like the HD.  Both of the items were REALLY good ...

  • Re: Avoid SATA problems if I just install Vista?

I can use an Intel driver?  I don't have to use a Gigabyte driver?  Gigabyte offers SATA/RAID drivers for some of their other mobo's, but for some reason they do not have them available for download for my mobo (GA-G31M-S2L).  If anybody happens to know of a SATA/RAID driver that will work, please post a link. Thanks! In the ...
