Hello,  I have searched for the answer to my problem with no clear answer so far... so I decided to try straight up asking you guys. • Re: New Desktop Virtual Server Build (DFI + Q6600)

UncleVic: Exception #2: Both Vista SP1 x64 and Windows Server 2008 x64 cannot be installed; they hang early in the boot process with an infinitely repeating small green left-to-right progress bar. Making Progress.. With more ''countless hours trying to troubleshoot'', I determine that the problem is with the JMicron onboard RAID controller ...

  • Re: New Desktop Virtual Server Build (DFI + Q6600)

Update on this machine: With two exceptions, it's running very well.  WinXP x86 SP3, Win2003 x86 SP2, and Win2003 x64 SP2 all very stable.  Both Win2003's see all of the 8GB I have on the machine.  And the RAID10 architecture on the ICH9R southbridge is also doing quite well (I'm running several SQL Server projects on it). ...

http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=11498907 Wishlist can be seen here. I'm going for around a $1200 budget, i can push it maybe a hundred over. • First Build, Looking for Advice/Opinions

Hi everyone! I'm getting ready to build my first computer. It's something I've always wanted to do and I'm very excited. What are your thoughts on my choices? I'm upgrading from an Athlon XP 1800+ so I expect there to be big difference!!!   Intel Q6600 G0, possibly overclocked to 3.0Ghz(333x9) Gigabyte EP35-DS3L G.Skill 2x2GB DDR2 800 ...

  • Re: New Desktop Virtual Server Build (DFI + Q6600)

Finally got my mobo in. Had trouble getting the new RAM running at 1066 MHz--I guess that running a full 8GB kinda stresses things.  At the moment, the Q6600 is running at 3240 MHz (9x360) and the RAM is running dual channel at DDR864 (4-5-5-12, 2.35v).  I'm letting it burn in with Memtest86+ 2.01 for the night.  Haven't done ...

  • Re: Q9300 Now on NewEgg - Check your MB first

ish718:Well, look at the bright side, there is no ''real'' performance loss going from a Q9300 to a Q6600. Only advantage it has is power consumption and heat Confirmed.  It consumes less and is clocked 100MHz higher.  It also comes with a bit of a nasty anti-overclocker feature: locked FSB multipler.  See ...

  • Re: New Desktop Virtual Server Build (DFI + Q6600)

I submitted the order Sunday night.  Monday my credit card was charged, and later that evening all equipment was shipped.  I'm expecting delivery today (boy, is NewEgg always this quick? I'm impressed!) I'd like to continue documenting my experiences here.  Opinion from all: Is it better to start a new thread, or continue ...

  • Re: New Desktop Virtual Server Build (DFI + Q6600)

Thanks HOGHAULER.  I'm getting some of the same from other forums.  So now I'm looking at about 700w to give me the necessary ''headroom''.  Originally, I was thinking that with cascaded startups, the HDDs won't be drawing that much (they settle out at about 6w ea. once at full speed). The DFI forum also mentioned some past ...

  • Re: New Desktop Virtual Server Build (DFI + Q6600)

Thank you for the input. I'm choosing the DFI because: It has dual 1000/100/10 LAN It has at least 6 SATA slots Is onboard RAID capable.  Windows Server 2008 x64 is very new and there are few third-party device drivers out there that support it.  Fortunately, the Intel ICHxR RAID support is built-in (if I have my facts ...

  • SolidWorks 2008/2009 E8XXX or Quad Q6600

I have been working with SolidWorks for some time now. My workstation is a Pentium 4 3.16 on a Asus P4C800 Deluxe (pretty good board by the way). I am feeling the need for speed and the boss game me his credit card with a limit of about $800 for a rebuild. That means I need new motherboard, memory, power supply processor, video card and CPU ...

  • Stock cooling on Q6600

building a new PC with a Q6600 overclocking to (and maybe above) 3.0gHz, wondered what everyone's thoughts were on the stock cooling for it. I heard it was enough, but wanted other opinions
