  • A question about adding RAM to my desktop PC.

I have a Dell Dimension 4550 with an Intel Pentium 4, 2.00GHz processor, and 256MB of RAM occupying one of the two available memory slots.   The RAM is labelled ā€œ256MB DDR-266MHz – CL2, PC21004 - 20330ā€.   I’d like to trash the 256MB and put in a pair of 512MB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 333 (PC 2700) sticks or maybe a G.SKILL 2GB (2 x ...

  • So Sandra tells me...

Ran a Sandra test because my framerate in WoW is pretty horrifying, even with a semi-decent system (see specs posted). I recently upgraded the HDD from an old IDE 120 GB relic (it has had problems for over a year) to the SATA referenced below, reinstalled Windows, and reinstalled brand-new drivers for everything, including the VIA Chipset ...

I recently bought a MacBook Pro, but didn't want to pay the full $200 dollars to have them do it when I figured I could get a kit and put it in myself for much less. Last night I opened up the back, took the started RAM out and put in the 2 Kingston 2GB sticks for MacBook Pros I bought through Newegg. When I tried to turn it on, it just went ...

  • Re: New Desktop Virtual Server Build (DFI + Q6600)

Finally got my mobo in. Had trouble getting the new RAM running at 1066 MHz--I guess that running a full 8GB kinda stresses things.  At the moment, the Q6600 is running at 3240 MHz (9x360) and the RAM is running dual channel at DDR864 (4-5-5-12, 2.35v).  I'm letting it burn in with Memtest86+ 2.01 for the night.  Haven't done ...

So, I recently purchaced a computer through the Dell Outlet store (low budget), and I'm interested in making some minor upgrades to it... Aka, HDD, RAM, Cooling... I don't have a large budget, and am looking to do it over the period of a few months... Can anyone point me toward, or suggest some good parts so that I can upgrade the performance?
