  • WD passport powered by?

hi, I was thinking of buying a Western Digital passport:  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136227   Do you know if the passport is powered exclusively by the USB port or does it need to be plugged into an outlet? Thank you and have a nice day :-)

  • New AMD Build - all opinions welcomed

I am upgrading from the old socket 754 build I put together in college. This is my preliminary list of hardware. The budget is tight, so I'll be putting the core together first, reusing some old components, and upgrading as I can. I don't have too many builder friends, so any opinions and input would be greatly appreciatedMotherboard BIOSTAR ...

  • WD1001FALS bka Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB

I notice Newegg has had this up for a few days: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136284. But there is no reviews, not really any reviews from hardware sites either from what I can find. Has anyone tried out this drive?

I submitted the order Sunday night.  Monday my credit card was charged, and later that evening all equipment was shipped.  I'm expecting delivery today (boy, is NewEgg always this quick? I'm impressed!) I'd like to continue documenting my experiences here.  Opinion from all: Is it better to start a new thread, or continue ...

  • Re: New Desktop Virtual Server Build (DFI + Q6600)

Thanks HOGHAULER.  I'm getting some of the same from other forums.  So now I'm looking at about 700w to give me the necessary ''headroom''.  Originally, I was thinking that with cascaded startups, the HDDs won't be drawing that much (they settle out at about 6w ea. once at full speed). The DFI forum also mentioned some past ...

Thank you for the input. I'm choosing the DFI because: It has dual 1000/100/10 LAN It has at least 6 SATA slots Is onboard RAID capable.  Windows Server 2008 x64 is very new and there are few third-party device drivers out there that support it.  Fortunately, the Intel ICHxR RAID support is built-in (if I have my facts ...

Penewab2007- LIke you, I'm not a brand ''believer''.  I am loyal to brands that give me consistently good service and I bought Seagates for ten years for that reason, but now am shying away from them until I get clarification about recent reports of quality issues.  I avoided Western Digital drives for years after some ...

  • My Book Essential 500GB - Watch the price on USB

This is an older drive that offers USB connections only. Western Digital has updated this product line, and is offering FireWire, and I think also an eSATA version. Since they have new versions out, there *might* be a price drop on the older USB models, and that could be a good way to get a 500 GB drive. Here is my newegg search for 500 GB 7200 ...

  • Hacking the "My Book" 500GB - Upgrade to eSATA

Update: You might not have to bend the case so much after all...  Heheh the joke is on me I guess.... After all of this, I indeed discovered there *IS* a screw in the case, it was just painted over with some very convincing black paint, at least on my model.... And when I saw the underside of the aluminum connector inside the box, it looked ...
