I have been going crazy with (what I assume is) the SATA/XP problem.
I have a Gigabyte GA-G31M-S2L and I am trying to do a clean install of XP Pro SP2 onto an IDE drive (install would reboot suddenly when trying to install onto a SATA hd). Gigabyte does NOT have the SATA/RAID drivers available for this particular board ...

I've had my rig for a little over 5 months now. I've always experienced some issues with the PC (if I play a bunch of videos back to back, or skip through them in WMP, my comp crashes), but I didn't think much of them. Within the past month, my PC has been crashing with some regularity. Vista said it was due to the NVIDIA SATA ...

So I have the basic home network set up on all my machines at home with XP. I have some stuff on my computer, like music and movies, that I share across the network. However, my sister came home from college this summer and her machine has Vista. The only thing I was able to get her to see on the network was whatever I uploaded ...

UncleVic:
Exception #2: Both Vista SP1 x64 and Windows Server 2008 x64 cannot be installed; they hang early in the boot process with an infinitely repeating small green left-to-right progress bar.
Making Progress..
With more ''countless hours trying to troubleshoot'', I determine that the problem is with the JMicron onboard RAID controller ...

Update on this machine:
With two exceptions, it's running very well. WinXP x86 SP3, Win2003 x86 SP2, and Win2003 x64 SP2 all very stable. Both Win2003's see all of the 8GB I have on the machine. And the RAID10 architecture on the ICH9R southbridge is also doing quite well (I'm running several SQL Server projects on it). ...

Ok, here is my opinion. Feel free to disagree or agree with me on anything :)
With the recent flub of Microsoft's flagship software, Windows' new version of Vista, and the constant growth of alternative computer operating systems such as SuSE, debian, Ubuntu Linux, I believe it comes down to US as users of software to tell the ...
