This is going to be my first rig I build from scratch and from reading a few dozen forum posts about the mb not working I thought it would be best to ask. I have a moderate understanding of computers from fixing comps, moding some, and upgrading. I'm looking at:
Ram:
OCZ NVIDIA SLI-Ready Edition 4GB 2x2gb DDR3 SDRAM pc3 14400 model ...

I'm trying to decide which card to get, either two EVGA 9800 GT in SLI or one EVGA GTX 260. They will cost the same in the end after the rebates so that's not an issue. I dual boot with ubuntu and vista I wasn't sure if SLI would affect anything in ubuntu. What is going to be better performance wise?
Thanks in ...

I bought my mobo (asus p5n-d) because of the sli support in my plans to put 2 8800gts 512 in my computer because i already have one. But with the new 4850's i want to switch to one of those but not if i cant cross fire them without a mobo upgrade.

I'm currently using two 17'' monitors on my aging machine and will be building a gaming box soon. The two 17'' monitors are not ideal for gaming, so I was considering purchasing a 28'' monitor and sticking it in between the two 17's. Can I use this machine in two modes somehow?
Mode 1 (work):
Linux, 3 monitors driven by 2 Nvidia ...

This is actually a 2 part question. I will post what I sent to Newegg Customer Support. (They sent me here, of course. Which is, well, heh, heh, why I'm here! )
#1 - I am currently pricing a very close to top of the line system and since most of the components are going to come from newegg, I thought that I might ask you ...

...I think one last look-over would be wise.
My first build ever. I've pushed my budget to it's limits ($1100) and the only wiggle room I have, price-wise, is lateral or backwards...so if you know of a better component choice for the same price or less, by all means suggest it. I can't afford to buy a Core 2 Extreme right now, so ...

I am planning on the purchase of the above MOBO. I already have a Slot 775 E8500 Processor, and 2 GeForce 8600GT 1GB nVidia SLI Graphics Cards, with 4GB Corsair (4 x CM2X1024 - 6400/800), ALL going into a ANTEC P190 +1200 Case.
I need a MINIMUM of 8 SATA Headers onboard (2-DVDRWs; 2 x 1TB HDs, and a 4 Drive (4 x 750GB HDs) Raid, and this is the ...

Good move on the PSU it should last long
Thermal paste is a cake walk to install. The rule is to use ''a pea sized amount'' maybe even less sometimes. Less is more you just need a skin not a like a half inch of the stuff. Then put your finger inside a plastic bag and smear it around till its even and smooth. Place you heat sink on top and wiggle ...

I am doing a new build and so far I think I want the intel q6700 2.66 ghz processor
(processor)
But after that, I don't know what mobo or video card to get. How does ATI compare with Nvidia nowadays? I know Nvidia is doing well but I am out of the loop for ATI.
Anyway, should the mobo be sli capable just incase (or crossfire)?
I ...

Can I run SLI using two different graphics chipsets (9800 GX2 & 8800 GS)?

I just now read that nVidia acquired Ageia...I thought that between Ageia physics and ''true'' quad core processing that AMD/ATI stood a chance of redemption by going a different route technologically. Around the time of socket 939 (seems so long ago) AMD seemed untouchable. Although ATI took the backseat graphically around that time, building ...

Hi, I'm going to be in the market for a new computer in the next couple of months and I'm trying to find a motherboard that will satisfy my needs.
I'm looking for something with an AM2+ socket (Phenom support) and an nVidia north bridge along with support for SLI. It seems that the only decent AMD boards that I can find are all designed to ...
