  • Re: Help choosing ODD (disk drive)

Like the others said PATA is old technology, SATA is newer and superior.  If you go SATA, check out the drive.  You want one listed as SATA II (300Mbs transfer), and your motherboard must support this as well.  Data cable must be SATA II rated.  There are some speed enhancements such as NCQ, but you must change settings in your ...

  • Re: Avoid SATA problems if I just install Vista?

I can use an Intel driver?  I don't have to use a Gigabyte driver?  Gigabyte offers SATA/RAID drivers for some of their other mobo's, but for some reason they do not have them available for download for my mobo (GA-G31M-S2L).  If anybody happens to know of a SATA/RAID driver that will work, please post a link. Thanks! In the ...

  • Re: New Desktop Virtual Server Build (DFI + Q6600)

UncleVic: Exception #2: Both Vista SP1 x64 and Windows Server 2008 x64 cannot be installed; they hang early in the boot process with an infinitely repeating small green left-to-right progress bar. Making Progress.. With more ''countless hours trying to troubleshoot'', I determine that the problem is with the JMicron onboard RAID controller ...

  • Re: New Desktop Virtual Server Build (DFI + Q6600)

Update on this machine: With two exceptions, it's running very well.  WinXP x86 SP3, Win2003 x86 SP2, and Win2003 x64 SP2 all very stable.  Both Win2003's see all of the 8GB I have on the machine.  And the RAID10 architecture on the ICH9R southbridge is also doing quite well (I'm running several SQL Server projects on it). ...

  • Intel Raid Driver Floppy for Vista 64

I have a Gigabyte GA-X48-DQ6 mobo and Installed Vista 64. The 2 x WD 750Gb hard disks were configured in a Raid 1 (mirror) configuration. I never used the floppy driver (that you need to create) and installed Vista without a problem and it works great. How do I dertermine that Raid 1 works as designed and that the drivers are proper? Thanks

  • Re: RAID Array question

CthulthuDawn: Question is, can I achieve this by having 1 single larger hard drive than the raptors. Say I have 2 raptors at 150gb each (300 total) is it possible to have just 1  500GB drive to back up onto, or do i need 2 additional drives in a Raid 0? I'm a bit lost on that equation. Sticking to just the question above, NO, you cannot ...

  • RAID Array question

Planning my new build out, least on the hard drive part and I'm trying to understand RAID array's. I understand Raid 0 and Raid 1. So I plan on at least doing 2 raptors in a Raid 0. I do want to back this data up, so I was thinking a Raid 0+1. Question is, can I achieve this by having 1 single larger hard drive than the raptors. Say I have 2 ...

  • DMRaid configuration

suppose I wanted to dual boot XP and Ubuntu, and I have 2 160gb HDD's in RAID 0.  Well,  Ubuntu does not read my HDD's as a RAID array, just 2 separate partitions.  So, before installing Ubuntu, I used the live cd, downloaded dmraid from the universal repository, then I made my ext3 partition and linux swap on the HDD that didn't ...

  • Horrible write speeds, Raid 5 Intel Intel ICH9R

OK, so I build my new machine, but I finally have realized that something is definitely wrong with the RAID setup.  It just takes WAYY too long to write.  Installing a game takes about 30 minutes most times.  After it's installed, the game runs great.  I never seem to have any issues with the read speeds.  I found this ...
