    I can't tell from your original post, but I assume you are using the onboard RAID option with the ICH9R southbridge. Write performance on RAID 5 without significant onboard (or onchip) RAM is very slow--I would certainly NOT recommend it.  If you can, get another drive and make it RAID 1+0 (much faster).
