  • Re: Flashing BIOS

If you cannot flash from within Windows (and I don't think your motherboard supports this) then you must either buy a external floppy drive (USB), or a flash drive, or install an internal floppy drive, or flash off a bootable DVD/CD.  I recommend any of the three previous, but if you won't shell out any money for it, here is a bootable CD ...

  • Motherboard burst into flames - now what?

Man, I've been having nothing but problems with this board - and now this? Once I worked out all the problems outlined in this thread, I had a functioning computer and it was really nice - at least, until my new SATA DVD-Burner showed up.   I popped out the IDE cable and put in the new drive and, as I always do when I add new hardware, I ...

  • Switching motherboards, Drivers a problem?

Recently i moved to Greece from the U.S, i shipped my computer and hooked all up all nice and dandy right. Well my computer won't post, i've determined that it is the motherboard.   My question is, if i still have my same harddrive in the computer, and say i buy a crosshair 2 formula, will my old crosshair motherboard drivers interfere if i ...

  • Re: Asus P5Q Pro won't POST

The 8600 series won't work on the P5Q series. Reading on another forum that talked about the board, someone else was having that problem. The board is lacking PCI-E 1.1 support. Though the board has PCI-E 2.0, which is suppose to be backwards compatible with 1.1; ASUS left it out..somehow. I was frustrated myself having a XFX 8600GT XXX 256mb card ...

  • Asus Striker II Extreme MB: do I have the space?

This is actually a 2 part question.  I will post what I sent to Newegg Customer Support.  (They sent me here, of course.  Which is, well, heh, heh, why I'm here!  ) #1 - I am currently pricing a very close to top of the line system and since most of the components are going to come from newegg, I thought that I might ask you ...

  • Asus eee PC 900

I'm thinking seriously about buying an ASUS eee PC 900 or 901.  The people at ASUS tell me I can upgrade the memory to 2GB but I only see 1GB machines listed.  Is this strictly a do-it-yourself job or can you order them with 2GB?   Also, for anyone who owns a LINUX version, any words of wisdom on the openoffice software?  ...

  • 4850 performance question

At 1680x1050, is 60fps on Half Life 2 normal?  Just Straight up Half Life 2, none of the episodes.  Normally, running 60fps on any game is nice, and is certainly playable.  I was just under the impression that I was supposed to be getting a much higher fps rate than that.  And since I plan to be getting a newer game or two ...
