I have broken the hard drive cable in my 3.5" external hard drive enclosure. It's a standard 40 pin 80 conductor IDE flat ribbon cable, but it's only 2" long -- and that's the problem. I have spent hours now trying to find a replacement, and the best I could come up with was buying the tools and connectors to make one myself. This should not be so hard to find. Many, many external hard drive enclosures have used these short cables -- they break easy when you pull them off the drive -- so they should be readily available. I checked with Cooler Master, who made mine, and they referred me to three online vendors who they said "should" have them ... and they don't.

So if anyone knows where I can find one of these, please let me know (I'm going to buy several). Any length between 1.75" and 3" ought to be good enough.

Thanks! Chuck

NEED IMPUT ON OS COMPATIBILITY VS CPU

I am Currently in a build

I play WoW a lot and I am really tired of horrible framerates and horrible lag whenever I get near any other players. The RDRAM for the computer is insanely expensive and the cards I have found have been reasonably priced. I took apart my compy and I have two 64mb sticks, and two 128 sticks for a total of 374mb of RAM.....uggghh... That will have to wait. I have enough money to buy a new card. I was thinking about.

Number one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130452

Number two: http://cgi.ebay.com/nVIDIA-GeForce-FX5500-FX-5500-256-MB-AGP-3D-Video-Card_W0QQitemZ290362309330QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Components?hash=item439af13ad2

I plan on sometime in the near future building a whole new rig. But, for right now I need a quick fix. These cards are both 4x/8x compatible. The first one says it needs a minimum of a 300 watt power supply, and the second says it needs a 250 watt power supply. I found a website that said my computer had a 250 watt max, but I took my computer apart and examined it and I found out I have a 330 watt max power supply. Can someone please help me. I need to know if one of these cards will work in my computer. I know a little bit about this. Enough to put it in myself and see if things match up. But, I'm not sure if there's something I'm missing. The specs for the cards are on both links. I just need to know if one or both will work. I'd like the first one, but, if the second one is the only one that will work, that'd be fine. I found a review stating that the second card worked fine in a Dell Dimension 8100 for someone, but the pic it showed in the review was of a different card. It looked totally different. Stating that it was a Nvidia GeForce FX5500 256mb AGP card. But, showing something else. Please neweggers! I need help. I need a new card now! If neither of these will work, can someone maybe suggest a card to me that they know will work? Maybe someone that has experienced the same situation.

Crysis Warhead on NVIDIA GTX 260

First of all, my system specs;

Processor: Quad CPU Q9550 @ 2.83 GHz

Ram: 4 GB

OS: Vista 32 bit - SP 2

GPU: Nvidia GTX 260

The problem I'm having when running Crysis Warhead is that the in-game textures seem very ugly, even on full specs. Moderately distant objects have almost no detail, and as I approach, the texture detail only improves slightly. Up close, textures are far from impressive. Imagine zooming in on Google Earth. As you zoom in, the image becomes sharper with more detail. In my case with Crysis Warhead, the textures remain blurry. Also, leaves on the ground very noticably appear in a cone infront of me as I move. One object that stood out to me from several yards away was a deer's hoof, which was made up of about 5 very large square pixels.

I get far better graphics on Far Cry 2. Every object, near to far, is highly detailed from the instant I view it.

The fail whale visits my second build.
Sorry, my thoughts are everywhere so
this may be hard to read/focus on.

I’ve been building PCs for awhile now and this has got me stumpted. I’ve tried
searching about the problem but I’m not getting too many results. I just got my
upgrade about 3 days ago and I've been having a problem with it. My sound is
"clipping" it's not a lag or studder, it's just a clipping noise.
This usually happens during gaming but it does sometimes happen while I'm on my
desktop doing nothing but browsing. I have no idea what could be causing it,
I've tried A LOT of things that I have thought may be causing it. (See below)

There is only one thing that makes it happen less frequently, my RAM. I've
switched my RAM's speed to 800 and it happens less. I've put in some older
(slower speed) RAM and it does it even less frequently, but it still happens so
it's not solving the problem. I'm using Logitech Z10 speakers which serve as
their own USB sound card, but I have tried it with the on board sound card as
well. Using Windows drivers and manufacture drivers does not effect it, nor
does disabling the sound card and using just the Z10's USB audio. I am
currently running Windows 7 32-bit, I switched from the 64-bit because I read
that it was a problem with 64-bit, sure enough nothing was changed. I'm quite
sure it isn't the OS because my old system ran 7 (both 64 and 32 bit)
completely fine without this error. I will be going back to Vista in a few days
but I'm pretty sure that's not going to do anything either. Power is NOT the
issue, I have recently got a new power supply about a month ago, it is running
700W pure.

My new hardware is as follows:
AMD Phenom 9950 Agena 2.6GHz Socket AM2+ 125W Quad-Core Black Edition
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit
Desktop Memory
GIGABYTE GA-MA770-UD3 AM2+/AM2 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard

There are still two things on my mind here. The RAM, processor, and motherboard
support dual channel in ganged mode, but the BIOS will not let me activate (or
even see) the option. According to the manual, the only time you cannot see
this option is if your hardware does not support it, which is does. I've
submitted a support ticket with Gigabyte about that problem, maybe that will
solve both problems.

The other thought I have is that everything is new aside from my hard drives.
I'm running two hard drives, a 320GB 7200rpm purchased 2/2007 and a 500GB
7200rpm purchased 12/2007, both are WD and SATA 3GB/s running in IDE mode. The
only reason I suspect my hard drives is because I've had this problem before on
an older system and the solution was replacing the hardware, all of the
hardware. Since the hard drives are the only hardware that isn't new, it sounds
like a likely option.

Could buying a soundcard fix this
problem? I’ve pretty much ruled this out because my Z-10 speakers act as their
own soundcard and I’m getting the problem using them and the on board, but I
haven’t completely ruled it out.

I can use any media player and any file. I've tried switching players and media
type and I still get the issue. I've checked on my laptop that it's not
anything wrong with the files, I actually recopied all my music and videos to
my laptop to make sure they haven't recently corrupted. Internet radio also
does this so I'm absolutely sure it has nothing to do with the media I'm trying
to play.

Sorry for the lengthy post but I wanted to make sure I had every detail covered
here. If you had any ideas whatsoever, please let me know so I can try them.

Other things I've tried:

Windows 7 64 & 32 bit
Changing RAM
Defrag all drives
Uninstalling all additional codecs (not installing when reinstalling Windows
again, still had the problem before installing)
Uninstall Nero (Somewhere said it would help)
Turning down all graphic-heavy applications
Disabling on board sound
Using on board sound
Changing quality of sound in Windows
Not using Direct Sound
Using Direct Sound
Removing non-essential operating hardware (for power usage)
Disabling anti-virus
Updating Direct-X (also said it would help somewhere)
Disabling all sound enhancements in sound options
I bought a new D-Link extreme gigabyte wireless n router from newegg and it didn't work. i sent it back and bought a new one from trendnet and it works fine. but ever since i used that d-link router my wireless adapter keeps saying that it detects wireless networks (in the corner near the task tray) but when i go to connect it says that says that it doesn't detect any. my router is properly configured for everything but im forced to use a wired connection on this laptop. as far as the adapter goes, its properly configured as far as i can tell. I don't, however, have any information on it. at first it said that it was a linksys adapter (gave me no model number) but in an attempt to fix it i did a driver role-back and now it says its a broadcom adapter. i have no info on it other than its 802.11g. if anyone knows how i can get information on the wireless adapter and possibly a better driver or fix my problem, id really appreciate it.
PC Build help $#&@$

Won't begin start up even after full parts/connector inspection.

Here's what I bought: (if you see a compatability problem, let me know... all of it should work together just fine)

I have the CD/DVD Rom drives from the old PC transfered into the new Coolmaster case. Also I just bought a new HDD a month ago and transfered it to the new tower.

Here's the deal, I got it all in. It was all hooked up properly. I push the power button on the case and it slowly revs..revs...revs.. and then shuts off. I have no idea what the problem here is. I can't find a problem anywhere. I've removed the PSU and put in another from the old PC I was replacing (550 watt). That one imediately shut down and didn't even rev. So, I systematically remove possible componants (CD/DVD drives), leds, case fans and the like to see if that's the problem, still no love.

I'm about ready to throw something here. This isn't my first build, and I've modded almost every PC I've ever owned, but this $#%@& is driving me crazy people. If anyone has a decent idea as to what is going on (or not able to go on) I'd really appreciate the assist.

Thanks
