I figured I would need some help.

Anyways, I am on a tight budget and I am trying to choose a good CPU for gaming. It doesn't have to be a top of the line i7 or anything, I just want solid performance in most recent games. I am looking at buying the Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Wolfdale 3.16Ghz 6MB L2 Cache chip. My only problem is it's $190. I can get a cheaper CPU, even a quadcore, but I just don't know a whole lot about CPUs so I'm not sure what I should go with. Is this chip more than I need just for gaming? I know that the GPU is probably the more important component when it comes to gaming and I plan on getting a GTX 260. I guess the real question is, can I get away with a cheaper chip than this? If so, any suggestions?

Thanks for any and all help in advance guys.

so confused about video cards

i wanted to play some simple online games (maple story, cabal, sims2, and
MAYBE wow) but i have no video card, and my cpu cant handle it (well it
sort of handles ms). i figured out that i have one pci express 16x slot
on my motherboard, and was wondering what kind of card will allow me to play
games like that at DECENT speeds (i honestly don't care if they are on low quality, or if they slow down A LITTLE).
preferably one for under 50$ canadian (probably not...)?? also what do all the specs of a graphics
card mean, and which are important? as well, would i likely have to upgrade my psu?
Athlon II X4 620

Quick question.

I know there is a difference between Athlon and Athlon II, but when doign some searches, I keep getting confused.

I am looking for a cheap motherboard for the new AMD Athlon II X4 620 propus 2.6ghz CPU ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103706&Tpk=athlon%20II%20X4%20620 ). I came across this board; http://www.foxconnsupport.com/cpusupportlist.aspx?type=mb&model=M61PMV&cputype= ;Which says it supports an Athlon X4 620 propus 2.6ghz. CPU, but I can't find the Athlon X4, just the Athlon II X4.

Motherboard CPU support List: http://www.foxconnsupport.com/cpusupportlist.aspx?type=mb&model=M61PMV&cputype=

Can anyone enlighten me on the matter?

Also, when I search for boards, they will sometimes say AM2+, but then when I look at its supported CPU on it's site, it says it supports AM3... Is there something i'm getting wrong? or is this correct?

Thank you.

upgrade from a dual core to a quad core?

I have this CPU right now.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103272

And I'm thinking about upgrading to this
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103471

My question Is how much of a performance jump will i get?
I use my for gaming, and i have a little lag when i play the last remnant

This Is the video card I have
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130507

should i just upgrade the video card or both?

45w Dual Cores (AMD or Intel) Discontinued?

Just had a live chat with Maddie(?) about the stock status of the AMD Athlon 64 X2 4850e (N82E16819103255) & 5050e (N82E16819103298) over the past couple of weeks both of these processors have appeared briefly and then disappeared, so quickly that "auto-notified" did not send a message.
I am not sure if the CSR I chatted with, was giving me a canned response or if in fact these were discontinued.

I heard AMD is shifting operations to a newer and smaller chip platform but did they really discontinued these processors?

Does anyone have any idea what the replacement 45w Dual Cores would/could be?

I know that I maybe be asking a lot, I just wanted to get this out there in-case someone had some insight into these processors or their replacements.

Thanks in advance for the insightful comments!

-Chevyman

P.S. I've been looking at AMD's quad core processors.
