I recommend getting the USB interface. It is a very useful item to have, and at $18, it won't break the bank.
Alternately, if your external HDD can be disassembled, chances are you can use it as an interface instead - just pop in the blank HDD.
Now, if your new drive is Seagate or WD, you can download a brand-specific version of Acronis ...

1. Do a Google search for anything.
2. On the bar above search results, on the right, there is a 'gear' button. Click it, and pick the top option in the menu for search settings.(Sucheinstellungen)
3. On the left, pick 'Sprachen' (language)
4. In the drop-down under 'FΓΌr Google-Text', where it likely says 'Deutsch', Pick ...

I use an HTPC. I get Verizon FIOS, internet only. No TV subscription. I have a high-gain antenna in the attic, and use HD Homerun to record over-the-air programming. Plenty of things to watch via places like Netflix and Youtube. Good thing about recording your TV is you can watch it at your convenience, and ...

Same reason why cases don't come pre-installed with an optical drive. It is one of the components that system builder may wish to customize.
Ports are just mechanical extensions of motherboard headers - they normally carry no active components. And they are universal and standard. A USB 3.0 port or front audio ...

A bit late to the discussion, but why DSLR? You can get a very decent video from a much cheaper compact. Most of them have a macro mode. The usual limitations of point and shoots: smaller sensors, slower focus, worse low-light ability, horrible flash - will not be a hindrance in your case. You you gotta ...

Most cameras today have an HDMI output that can connect to either a TV or a monitor with HDMI connection. Both my Canon 60D and Canon PowerShot 500HS have mini HDMI output. Using this kind of connection means you have camera do the recording, and TV is just for monitoring. Main benefit over using the built-in LCD is seeing if ...

In my experience, reinstalling Win7 on a new motherboard generally resulted in having to make a phone call, and actually talking to a live representative. You just tell them it's a retail version, and they give you the activation code, is all.

I do not use Windows 8 and don't plan to.
I do not use IE 9. For very very few cases where I need to use IE, I still use IE 8 ( I disabled the IE 9 update item)
I am pretty much 100% Chrome user.

I recently was faced with a nearly identical situation. A hard drive starting to develop bad sectors had a corrupt WinXP installation, would not boot. When connected via USB interface to my Win7 PC, it would show up in 'My Computer', but when I tried to open it, the system would say that drive is not formatted. ...

Mind, I only used Gigabyte and ASUS mobos. Never had issues. Maybe some brands have bad QC. Maybe some people are just ham-fisted. Or blind. Trying to jam in a CPU the wrong way, then complaining of bent pins. Factor in the 'forum factor', too. If 10,000 people install their CPU ...

I dunno... must of the stuff I see about the matter reads suspiciously similar to the snake oil of $800 audio interconnects and $200 speaker feet.
I use a pair of Sony MDR-7506 headphones plugged into integrated audio on my Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H (ALC898, X-Fi EAX HD 5.0 support), and they sound fantastic.

A TV does not run any software on the USB drive. It only runs its own, internal firmware, using USB drive as media source. If TV has a 'photo slideshow' mode built in, it will use that. Otherwise, no dice. Yes, you can turn a slideshow into a video presentation, but unless you make it a 1080p HD file, the quality will ...

Reliance on color may be a bit unreliable going into the future. Generally, best way to recognize a port is to peek inside. USB 3.0 jack will have five additional conacts recessed into the plastic insert a bit to the front of the usual 4 contacts. USB 3.0 plug is longer than standard 2.0 plug, and looking inside one can see the ...

Best way one can get familiar with Linux on a Windows machine without running a chance of messing up the entire machine is via a VM. Grab a free version of VMware Player, and a Linux distro of your choice, and go for it. Not only a lot safer, it is also a lot more convenient. It literally takes seconds to switch ...
