I'm looking for a laptop(or possibly a netbook) under 600, and am not really in the rush to buy one. The main purpose of this is to use for school and to be able to work in areas without a power outlet for at least a good amount of time. I personally already have a desktop computer that I play games on, so graphics is not that big of a deal ...

According to Tom's Hardware, Them in crossfire are better than the 4890 and par with the gtx280. lol.
-
I would think that it depends on the monitor/resolution.
In My opinion, maybe a build with the e8400 and depending on monitor, a good graphics card.
1680x1050 - ati4870 or gtx260
1920x1080/higher- gtx285 or sli/crossfire...
They should perform well on most (if not all) games at max settings.

Got it. Thats what I was thinking, but I guess I just goofed... Anyways, thanks for correcting me...

Hey, jsv35! I seemed to notice that unless I'm wrong, the Phenom II tri cores are not compatible with the motherboard! Apparently, they use different socket types, unless I'm wrong...
Nvm... lol
-
Yeah, I think the Dual cores should stay the same for a while... And my doubt of dual cores (for my uses) has just about vanished... E8400 @ 4ghz is freakin sweet =D I can't believe how fast video cards are going down, though... tigerdirect had the 9800gtx+ on sale a while ago for 120 bucks... and so are newegg's prices...

Lvcio- For 1k(Intel or AMD), you can do everything you have listed with ease! I have a monitor(equivilant to a 22'' monitor) running at 1680x1050 and I only use a ati 4850... runs games like combat arms in high details, 4x AA without lag!
~I spend ~740 (base) on my computer, and it is freakin crazy! e8400 @ 4ghz, slightly overclocked 4850, 4 gb ...

Techie: Yes, it is updated... laast one has been on dec. 9... not much has changed for lower budget builds though.
slm- if I am not mistaken, the mobo requires a bios flash to support the cpu (amd, unless it supports it... idk)
-
Just for your info... since the amd phenoms have just been released, most motherboards do not support it right away. you need to update the bios using another amd processor before it will be compatable... I was planning to get it until I found this out, and since it was my first build, am not taking the chance..

Haha... well I finally built it, just to find out the motherboard was defective...
Well... I am not THAT big of a gamer... And truth is, I don't even know wth AA & AF is... All I care is that I am able to play games (in pretty high detail) w/o lag... I'm pretty sure a 512 mb 4850 will be good enough (considering I came from a laptop with a ...

Hi! can you revise this build/check for any incapabilities? I plan
to build around the end of February, so I am trying to ''prepare'' before
buying.
~Uses~ LOTS of multitasking (I tend to run 8+ programs
at once and put my current comp at a deadlag...), everyday uses,
''casual'' gaming, some photoshop, a good amount of video ...

I think beta expires august 1, 2009...
-
Er... I would get an E7300... since that is already very fast (even faster if overclocked), and quite cheaper than the quad core.
For the blue ray, i remember seeing that there was a lite-on one was like 75 bucks or so... you should look it up.
Everything else seems to look fine... but double check just to be sure.

Samsung 320gb is also discontinued...
Hey! What do you think about this build?
