intelguy:Not really
If Microsoft's OSes are not dead, the AV will survive.
Doesn't work like that. As long as there's a popular operating system, malware will be around for that OS, and consequently anti-malware will be around for that OS.

I thought I'd chime in on the situation while I have the chance (I'm at a library). A few hours after my last post the card pretty much died (I started getting several symptoms of a card on it's deathbed, the most prominent being red lines, which eventually degenerated into no video whatsoever). So I had two options, bake it, or send it ...

Look like another card is out of the question. I just found out that he's out of town for the week.
Any other suggestions? This screen resolution is really, really ugly.

Sorry, but I don't have another graphics card I can use at the moment. Possibly later tonight, but the chances of me being able to convince my dad to loan me something out of his PC are rather slim.

Tracer76:What are the temps on the GPU, and have you dusted out lately?
From memory, the highest the GPU has ever reached is 66C, and that was under load. Right now it's 41C. The last time I dusted the computer (including the VGA) was last Sunday. I do this every two weeks.

After that, while Windows can boot up, almost immediately after logging in, I get the ...

FascistNation:
Good news is no damage done.
Please don't take this as an insult, but you do remember that stock Intel socket 775 HSF pins are oriented in one direction, and once inserted are rotated near 180 degrees to lock them in. Be sure to use fresh thermal compound.
see manual PDF
Sorry but I've already tried that several ...

Looks like FascistNation was almost spot-on. I found the problem. It's my stock intel cooler. I don't know why, but it was very loose - no wonder the computer would shut down (although I'm not sure why it didn't beep - I know the board's speaker is enabled). I'm not even sure how the hell it got loose. Oh and guess what? It won't go back in. No ...

I was just using my computer like normal, when all of a sudden it slows down to a crawl. As in, it takes 10 seconds to move the cursor anywhere. Finally it completely locks up and I have to do a hard reboot. Upon rebooting, after the CD/DVD drives start up and the hard drives spin up, all of a sudden it just shuts down. It does this every ...

(Don't worry, when you run the installer it detects your system's language and installs AIMP2 with that language as the default)
