• Re: Computer build; need advice. ~700$

Not really the i5/i7 1156 chipset will be a deadend build unless Intel does use the 32nm CPUs on them and they still have not said one way or another only that the 1366 is their mainstream chipset and they will get the 6 cores.

  • Re: First time build, compatibility help please?

Well the best possible CPU is the 955 but then you really need to change out the mobo and the RAM to take advantage of the ddr3 memory. As for the VC that would depend on your monitor and its resolution. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103674 CPU

  • Re: First time build, compatibility help please?

Not bad for a first time builder but you cut corners in the wrong places, first that mobo is not one of the better made boards, two 2gigs of ram just is not enough for todays builds 4 gigs will do better plus if you go with the better mobo it leaves you room to upgrade down the road to a PII CPU without having to go out and buy another mobo. If ...

  • Re: Budget building for the future

Now for a low budget build the Sonata is fine but when you start talking $800 to $900 you want to protect that investment with the best cooling and airflow you can afford as well as good power management. The VC you chose requires 450 watts minimum so that gives you some breathing room with the Antec 500 watter but only 1 exhaust fan will not ...

  • Re: Budget building for the future

Well your build looks pretty good for what you want but the case only has 1 fan so unless you are going to buy some more if there is aloted space for anymore fans I would recomend you keep looking there. Now the word obsolete means that it is no longer manufactuered it does not mean its no longer of any use or will not continue to serve your ...

  • Re: Advice for Processor/Mobo upgrade

First off we need to know what case you have or what make and model if its a prebuilt system, we don't know if its an ATX or Micro ATX case or mobo.

  • Re: A final look before ordering

You have made several mistakes with your build, first the mobo uses ddr3-1333/1600 memory not ddr2-800 memory. Second the new onboard audio is far superior to audio cards unless you are a diehard audiophyle and have a real good ear then you need to look at the Omega ACs and third the ATI VCs work best with an AMD build and you can get a better ...

  • Re: Liquid Cooling or Fan/Heatsink Cooling?

It would cause a problem if the HSK&F were not there, instead that will act like a block redirecting air towards the top and some towards the bottom of the HSK&F allowing for cooler air to assist in the cooling of the CPU.

  • Re: Liquid Cooling or Fan/Heatsink Cooling?

What you say is true but the rear exhaust fan is lower and if you can mount your CPU HSK&F pointing towards the top then you could turn the rear fan around and use it as an intake fan to help cool the CPU more and give better airflow, but as I said before you just need to experiment and see which way will work best for your rigg.

  • Re: Budget build for this month need input

Yes the Nvidia VCs are good but the price versus performance when on a tight budget and going AMD build you are better off with the ATI VC chipset less chance of software conflicts. Stay with the Gigabyte mobo it is a better bang for your buck. The 5770's VCs are almost the same price or lower than the 4870's and the 4890's and you could even ...
