• Maybe computer software should go 10^100

Computer software is an oligopoly. That measn that there's only a few competitors in the industry, just barely enough to avoid monopoly laws. We have Microsoft, we have Apple, and we have Google. Microsoft and Apple are the only ones who create most software types, like operating systems and office applications. We also ...

  • Re: Can't figure out how to program.

That reminds me. If I've already created some basic scripting mods to Elder Scrolls Oblivion on the construction set, do I already have my foot in the door?

  • Re: Can't figure out how to program.

Sidicas:I don't know what the heck that means either.. Click on the links I gave you. There's pertinent information there. What a terrible guide, there's no reason to put these off topic quips in there that add absolutely nothing.. THANK YOU! I knew something was fishy (or phishy, your choice). C++ gets compiled ...

  • Can't figure out how to program.

I consider myself moderately computer literate. I know more than some people. I could probably perform clerical work. I can do basic troubleshooting on things like Internet connections and stuff. But when I try and read online tutorials that try and teach me C++, I can't even get the first page done because I can't figure out ...

  • Can't get rid of a virus.

This happens about every five minutes, and started a few hours ago. I receive a notice from AVG that a potential trojan horse is on my computer. I'll tell it to delete the infected material, and it will do so, and give me a confirmation that there is no more risky files on my computer. Then, about five minutes later, I'll get the SAME ...

  • Upgrading every year

Computer technology increases exponentially, so that computer you bought three years ago is obsolete. However, the price of a computer with the same specs goes down at about the same rate, so a computer that is ''state of the art'' for that particular point in time will usually cost abut the same. That being said, if I buy a $1,500 computer ...

  • Re: What is wrong with my computer?

amabhy:Sounds like an issue with the browser. I've seen old versions of IE or versions of Firefox with tons of add-ons fail at streaming video. Try using an alternative, say Google Chrome, or make sure your browser is up to date and clear the cache. I'm on IE 7.0. Is that the latest? So, what add-ons are necessary for basic browsing, i.e. ...

Is this a laptop? What is your video card? Desktop. Card is a 256MB ATI Radeon 2400 Pro.

  • Re: What is wrong with my computer?

TexasTransplant: Is this a laptop? If not, then get a real video card. That will likely solve it. Generally, video performance is a function of video hardware, not the CPU. Even youtube. I already have a video card that can play Elder Scrolls Oblivion on default settings. What more do I need? I'm not ...

  • What is wrong with my computer?

So, I'm trying to listen to a music video on Youtube, and the video is loaded (the load bar is all red), yet it still hick-ups a lot. I'll pull up the task manager, and it's only at 10% CPU. Why is this happening?

  • Re: Is there such a service?

GmsCool:You already received the answer. No need to be discourteous. All that that says is that I should write a Java application for it. I don't know how. Honestly, if you can't even afford a $20 microphone why are you even asking? I wasn't asking about a microphone. I was asking about software. You brought up the ...

  • Re: Is there such a service?

Pablocito: When a motherboard can cost over a thousand dollars, lots of things seem relatively cheap. Besides, the area she's in is rather noisy (it's a public Internet hub), so a microphone is the exact opposite of convenient. how's $20 sound? Noise cancellation tech is a wonderful ...
