• Re: Upgrade Suggestions for Very Old Compaq

You could buy a whole used pc off of Ebay for less than $100 that would be literally 10x more powerful than your Compaq. This old pc is best sent to the landfill. It is fifteen years old.

  • Re: Confused about Cores/threads for video editing.

I edit videos on my six year old 2.5ghz Core2Duo(dual core). Video editing isn't all that cpu intense. Odds are, your video is either 720p or maybe even 480p. An i3 will slice through that just as fast as an i5(assuming you keyframe edit, rather than frame edit/reencode). 1080p could be different, especially if your camcorder encodes to ...

  • Check out old revisions on GoogleCode

Is there any way to check out old revisions on GoogleCode(other than using the web interface to get everything one file at a time)? I know there are tons of things that will check out the ''latest'' version. That is not what I want. I want to be able to download a version that is about two years old. I've tried things like SVNTortoise, ...

  • Re: xfx radeon hd 5670 optimal settings?

It just depends on your card. You may be at your limit, you may have 100mhz to go. Crank it up until games start crashing. Then scale it back. If your temps are under 90C, you're fine.

  • Re: Video Card Upgrade.

You may want to try totally uninstalling your video card drivers. Go into device manager and delete your video card from the profile. Then try reinstalling your drivers. Metro is poorly optimized, but it should not be dropping in the teens with a 580. You may still want to SLI your 580 with another, but it's best to get your current 580 working ...

  • Re: GPU usage around 50%

I'm almost certain your card is defective. I don't know what's wrong with it exactly, but you're having far too wide a number of issues for this to be drivers. It isn't because of low gpu usage per se, but this is clearly not software. I'm totally lost why your monitor being 60hz is suggested as the problem. You have the same monitor as before. ...

  • Re: Video Card Upgrade.

A 680 is like %20-25 faster than a 580. Are you actually hitting sub-50 fps on your 580? I don't know of any games that suffer from that problem on a single HD monitor. All a 690 is, is something in-between a 670 and 680, in SLI. There is no reason for anyone to ever buy a 590 or a 690. It's more expensive, and less powerful than other ...

  • Re: First build, are my parts compatible?

Sorry, I forgot to mention that everything is compatible. Your motherboard can overclock your unlocked cpu. You have a good power supply. Your video card is a good match to your cpu. You might be okay with the heat spreaders, but I'm just not sure. I prefer to play things like that safely. Especially considering heat spreaders don't do anything ...

  • Re: First build, are my parts compatible?

For some reason Newegg doesn't have its measurements. But it will fit everything. Your heatsink is very tall and requires a case with about 8'' width. This one is 8.1'' so it should fit. My only concern is your Corsair Vengeance ram. It has some fairly tall heat spreaders and CM's V6 heatsink is massive. I would look into some type of low ...

I missed that. I thought you were just saying your card worked in his system. Pay him $30 to swap and be done with it?

  • Re: Paypal's new wrecking business

Pretty much. I've never liked the idea of major financial transactions over the mail. There is too much room for scamming. The odds of someone scamming me out of a $100 bag is probably not that high, but make it $5,000 and I don't like my long term odds. There are things that could make me feel safer, like mailing the item with a picture taken ...
