• Re: micro atx build core i7 budget 1000

http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1407916 Have your cake and eat it too. X58 is not only ATX. There are 4 mATX X58 boards, which are very capable OCers. You can build a pretty high-end righ for 1000 bucks.

  • Re: need to partition drive?

Those of you using Acronis, be aware that it screws up your partition alignment. Windows Vista and Win7 users. Go to start>run>msiinfo32 then go to components>storage>disks and look at your starting partition offset for the first paritition of each drive. If it doesn't read 1,048,576 bytes but 63 bytes, you can thank ...

  • Re: First Gaming Build, i7 920, $1300

n0lxx: I went and checked the supported memory on the ASUS Rampage Extreme (required a .ZIP download, most have them in .PDF format). After looking at it, there's not a whole lot of CAS 7 memory listed. Plenty of 9's, the slowest memory, and a few 8's, next slowest. OCZ is on the support list as a company, so these OCZ Platinum 6GB (3 x 2GB) ...

  • Re: First Gaming Build, i7 920, $1300

Look at the graph results closely. You're mixing up the red and orange bars. The orange is the 4890, which is consistantly beaten, (although not by much) by the GTX 285 (grey/black bar). The red bar is the 4870x2, which trades blows with the GTX295. The GTX275 (which is very clost in performance to the 285) and ...

  • Re: Core i7 Computer Build

Intel boards are usually lackluster (surprisingly as they make the chipsets that go in them). That board only has 4 DDR3 slots, which is pretty bad for a full 1366 ATX board. I would go with a 275..........not worth the extra 100 bucks you'll shell out for a 285. I guess the same could be said for the price difference from a GTX ...

  • Re: 24 GB of RAM with ASUS P6T?

You would be better served by going with a workstation/server class motherboard that has additional DIMM slots.

Originalm:i think i might get the asus rampage 2 gene, would this be a good way to go? Only if you like packing alot of power in a little package: http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1407916 Rig in my sig was about $1600. It would be a little more at today's prices since memory has gone up as well as the price of ...

  • Re: Case opinions

FWHMolotok:It will be a Core i7 920 on a Rampage II Gene mobo with 12GB Crucial Ballistix RAM, and a single GTX 295... and I plan on adding fans in the top fan spots on the case. I'm not too worried about cooling, as this is a mostly aluminum case, which helps dissipate heat quite a bit. With the addition of the top case fans to move more air, ...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835209017 I'll never use seperate RAM/NB cooling again. This fan, positioned properly cools my NB, SB, RAM, and mosfets If you're OCing, RAM cooling is a plus.

  • Re: YES PCIe 2.0 (32x) and 1.1 (16x) are compatible!

FYI there are some people who bought the first batch of 8800GT 512's (PCI-E 2.0 card) that could not get the card to work in their 1.1 boards. The fix was a new BIOS flash and/or a video card firmware update. So while technically they are compatible, your real-world results may vary.
