• Re: Gaming rig advice and build help

HOGHAULER brings up a good point. If you're only gaming on and LCD at 1680x1050 or less resolution than the x2 4890's are a waste of money. In that case you would be much better served with x2 4870's which will be better utilized when gaming with everything maxed out at this res. Of course if you do in fact have a 1920x1200 ...

  • Re: Which VGA is better at gaming ?

The biggest factor between those cards will be what game you're going to play (given the difference is still marginal). Some games run better on Nvidia cards while others prefer ATI. If there are some high profile games you're interested in check out the performance charts of each card and see how they perform in those games. If ...

  • Re: Build help for first time builder!

I'd also recommend checking out the pc build guide in the forum when you get the parts in and start building. It is a very good, detailed guide for first time builders. Just take your time and most importantly read the instructions carefully for your cpu and motherboard. n0lxx, why did you recommend the Sony OEM drive when he ...

^ Thanks! For the price there was absolutely no question about it! I'm not partial to Nvidia or AMD as I've owned multiple cards from both over the years but right now the 4870 is the reigning king of price/performance and XFX has a great reputation.

  • Re: *Sticky* What is in your Rig?

I just built this rig 2 weeks ago: (Let me know what you guys think) i7 920 @ 2.66GHz (I'll overclock once I get the cpu cooler below) Noctua NH-U12P SE1366 OCZ Platinum 3x2GB DDR3 1600 Asus P6T SE (This has 2x pci-e lanes that actually run at x16 unlike many boards) 2x XFX HD 4870 1GB (In Xfire, hence the importance of 2 x16 pci-e lanes ...

  • Re: The Faces of EggXpert

^ Thanks I was at a sweet beach front condo with a group of gaming buds having a lan party. One of the best trips I've ever been on. While we were there we had warm weather one day (played football on the beach) and then it snowed the next day (hung out in the hot tub!) It was incredible.
