OUYA: The Next Big Thing in Console Gaming?

Over the last 24 hours or so, a new, open source, $99 dollar, Ice Cream Sandwich-, Tegra-3-based gaming console has been taking the web by storm, earning 3 million dollars on Kickstarter in this small amount of time- http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ouya/ouya-a-new-kind-of-video-game-console

At first I was really excited about it, but the more I think about it, the more I feel even the $99 dollar investment isn't worth it, will it last? Can the hardware hold up? How open source is it? With all these questions, and not many answers, I think I'll stick to my PC.

    Any thoughts, opinions?

Personally i want something with higher specs but at $99 this guy has a place. If you put the main purpose of this device which is gaming aside it still is at the right price to compete with media streaming devices like roku all day long. Add on the gaming console aspect and you get a ton of value for $100.

Since I already own a gaming console, gaming pc, and a media center pc I doubt one will end up in my home. However I can certainly see why people would want one.

I agree, there's no place for it for me because I have a console and a gaming PC, but do you think the Tegra-3 chip is really all that great? It seems a bit on par with current consoles, and there are new consoles right around the corner. From a hardware standpoint, can it really compete? I suppose at a $99 dollar price point it can. ^By the way, love the profile pic!

The number one problem with this is going to be getting developers to make games for it. No one is going to buy a console with nothing but a some pac-man clones on it.

Good games take a long time to make. And everyone on the internet has ADD. If they wait 2+ years to role a console out, no one is even going to remember it anymore.

agree with you on the ADD part.

looks like this thing will run any of the tegra 3 games from the play store....??? if that is where the content is coming from along with custom games for the ouya then it will probably make money.

media streaming, gaming and possibly apps, and it's going to open so that it can be modified... this thing will probably end up with a nice group of people getting this thing to do all sorts of things.
