How To Bring Back DELETED Files!

This video is pretty interesting.  It's basically a tutorial for an open source file recovery program.  It's creepy in the sense that I just found a picture I deleted 5 months ago. haha Surprise

    Photorec Tutorial Video

Heres a step by step guide for those who can't get the video to load or just don't feel like watching it.  Also, this guide is for Windows Users.

My tutorials can be read two ways.  If you're a beginner, read each step as your normally would.  If you're advanced read only the indented lines.

     1.  Download Photorec from this link:

              http://www.cgsecurity.org/testdisk-6.6.win.zip

    2.  Right-Click the download and extract to your desktop.

    3.  Navigate to:

              C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Desktop\testdisk-6.6.win\testdisk-6.6\win

USER is a placeholder for your user name.

    4.  Double-click:

              photorec_win.exe

    5.  Using the up and down arrow keys, select the hard drive you wish to restore.  Press:

              Enter twice

     6.  To change the file types that are searched for, press:

Right arrow twice and then Enter

    7.  Change these to your liking by pressing right or left arrow.  When you are done, press:

              Enter

    8.  Press:

              Left arrow twice

Choose your partition, most likely NTFS,.

     9.  Choose your filesystem.  Again, most likely NTFS.

    10.  Press:

              Y

Now, you can either stop the recovery midway or let it run completely.  The recovered files will be in:

    C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Desktop\testdisk-6.6.win\testdisk-6.6\win\recup_dir.1

Alright, no problem.  I'll write out the steps in a few hours after I finish the yard.  Or you can try to figure the program out by yourself until then.

Yeah, imagine all those HDs on ebay that people don't realize has their personal photos and such on it.  Guess you can never be too safe.  If you're gonna sell something make sure you use Darik's Boot and Nuke to completely overwrite your harddrive and destroy your information.

Re: How To Bring Back DELETED Files!

haha   yea.  I have gotten old school computers and just for the heck of it, read the deleted files.  I could get e-mails and grades, and even paper they had written.  Even after it was formatted.
