GTX 680 Review: Retaking the Performance Crown

    Anandtech:

But in the meantime, in the here and now, this is by far the easiest recommendation we’ve been able to make for an NVIDIA flagship video card. NVIDIA’s drive for efficiency has paid off handsomely, and as a result they have once again captured the performance crown.

NVIDIA’s cards have always done well at Battlefield 3, which puts the Radeon HD 7900 series in a bad position from the beginning. Short of the GTX 680’s massive lead in the Portal 2 bonus round, this is the single biggest victory for the GTX 680 over the 7970, beating AMD’s best by 28% at 2560, and by continually higher amounts at lower resolutions.

Re: GTX 680 Review: Retaking the Performance Crown

The good news is... AMD will have to drop the 7970 by a significant amount of stay competitive. I love market competition. Egyptian

Really after this the only crown AMD holds is the performance vs power consumption, and power consumption is really not too important to someone who is willing to buy those top end cards. So congrats to Nvidia yet again on another successful release.

Does this mean the previous GTX cards will drop in price? I was planning on getting the GTX 560Ti...should I wait?

Re: GTX 680 Review: Retaking the Performance Crown

Since only the gtx 680 has been launched and no announcements about lower end cards have been made the gtx 500 series up to the 570 will probably remain around the same price for a while.

Ha! bought mine last friday. newegg dropped the price by $70 and gave free shipping, and 2 free games (which I already owned, but that just means even more of a discount ;)) Just checked the price and it cost $70 more again. Win! Cant wait for it to get here so I can try and squish it into my mid-tower!

    Don't shake the baby!

Yes, which means more people buying AMD products, which in return means less people buying the nvidia, unless there are some DOA. Yet, Gamers looking for the highest video cards in quality, and performance, nvidia will most likely win them over again.

AMD Phenom II X4. Great CPU.

Re: GTX 680 Review: Retaking the Performance Crown

The 7970 is actually faster in most games after its most recent driver updates. Not much sense in commenting on a year old article lol.
