Playstation 1 to hd monitor connectivity

I have an ASUS 21.5" HDMI monitor with my xbox 360 and my pc connected to it. I still have an unused vga port on my monitor and would like to hook my playstation 1 up to my monitor and be able to use it. I already bought a vga to rca cable from eforcity and it did not work. i am looking for a cheap product- $25 or less- so i can play my ps1 on my monitor. would a tv tuner work? respond please
