Games that made you hate the developers

Tribes Vengance: i bought it for $40 and a few months later they drop tech support and no patches, the first one never even came out

Sin Episodes Emergence: exact same reason but i payed i think $20 for it.

Both of these games were great, and had/still do have plenty of potential to be big online games, but the devs are i****s with their head up their you know what, im p****d that there wont be anymore sin episodes, i beat the first one in 2 hours and wanted the others right after i was done cause it was so fun, but now i think over how i lost money on it.

    Counter-Strike:Source

So many bugs that hinder competitive play, and Valve hasn't done a damn thing to fix them. Instead they have been busy adding advertisements to CS 1.6 and wasted a lot of time developing the dynamic pricing system for CS:S which turned out to be an utter failure that no one uses.

I recommend Tier 1-3 PSUs from JonnyGuru's list of recommended PSUs and high-efficiency PSUs from this list.

    battlefield 2

do not get me wrong, i love this game. it is a very fun game to play. but it had a lot of bugs when it game out, used up a lot of server "power", i never had good pings(best was 78), it runs hard on my computer(which is a decent machine), it requires top of the line gpu which i dont think everyone can afford.

Re: Games that made you hate the developers

C&C 3. How can the same company that made good simpel network connections in an FPs liek BF2142 make connecting 2 players together in an RTS so damned hard??

The game would not let me connect online when I had my netgear router.. Every other game in the world would work, but not C&C3. Worse yet, when the errors occurred, there was an un-clickable dialog box that required a hard reboot to get around. Eventually I bought a pos Zyxel router just so I could play the game without connecting my box directly to my cable modem. I even opened all my ports and still got no love when using the neatgear.

The game itself is a blast.. but the network interface lead programmer needs to be shot.

Re: Games that made you hate the developers

EA games really makes you want to hate them. I don't know if it's their corporate mentality on everything or the way they want to "consolize" everything for the PC. What I mean by that is; one of the things I hate about consoles is that they trap you into the developers idea of what the game should be. 90% of them are have a linear storyline, incorporate the same ideas over and over, and make you grind through the same tired game content for stupid "rewards". These are features they've added to most of their recent titles like BF2142, and I don't like it. Give me access to the same weapons as everyone else from the get go, don't make me play 2000 matches online to "unlock" them. Give me what I pay for, don't make me work for it. Their horrible expansion pack verification system made my $20 dollar a terrible waste of time, took me days to get through their rediculous system of entering CD keys and making a user account online to install an expansion to a game I've owned for over a year. Now I've got a EA Link program on my system that pops up everytime I startup to check for updates to my EA games for 10 mins and never finds any.

Also, ACsoft, always have great ideas behind their games but the execution comes off cold and repetative. Their games feel like they were created by an assembly line, same graphics, time traps, sounds, effects...etc in all their games. For some reason I keep trying them but time and again I am disappointed (i.e. City of Heros/Villans, Guild Wars).

These guys compared to my 2 favorite developers of all times just can't cut it (Blizzard/Relic).

    That's what she said...

Top Spin 2.  I was so excited for a decent LOOKING tennis game for PC that I went out and bought it.  What a waste.  Worst console port ever.  I was so disappointed by the utterly poor sound / graphics / animation.  Why bother?

I hate WoW for that very reason. If it wasn't for WoW we would have probably seen SC2 and/or Diablo 3 by now but instead Blizzard has been to busy raking in the profits and maintaining WoW.

Team Fortress 2 also makes me want to strangle those idiots at valve. They tarnish the Team Fortress name by even using it on that joke of a game. It's nothing like any Team Fortress game and looks like a cartoon.

Re: Games that made you hate the developers

For someone who has played TFC for almost 8 years I don't need to play TF2 to see I won't like it. It changes and removed so many things that made Team Fortress a great game. Plus there are already plenty of gameplay demos you can watch to see what the game is like.

Here a list of known changes I can think of:

Respawn time changed from 5sec to 20sec
No Grenades for any class except demoman(this includes frag grenades)
    Medic loses super shotgun
    All classes lose single shotgun
HW has huge 2d cone muzzle flash
    No Concs
    No Bunnyhopping
    Sticky demo pipes
No air control for rocket/pipe jumping
medic has healing beam that reaches like 10 feet instead of melee
    medic can make people invincible
No more CTF maps(existing CTF changes to capture the briefcase and etc.)
spies can turn invisible instead of disguising
Retarded melee weapons which include: baseball bat, shovel, pipe and bonesaw
No more blood or gore(yes I like that in a mature war game)
Did I mention it looks like a Disney Cartoon?

As a hardcore TFC veteran this is insulting but hey if it sounds good to you then by all means enjoy.

Glad to meet some folks who can feel my pain.  Sorry, but the fantasyland of elves and trolls does nothing for me.  I like modern/futuristic settings.  However, more than that, I was terribly disappointed with Warcraft 3, yet loved Starcraft and Diablo 2.  Naturally, when I heard that Warcraft was to be the setting for the MMO, I was disappointed.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed regarding Blizzard's big announcement this weekend, but they already scrapped Starcraft: Ghost, so I can't get my hopes too high up.

I loved Warcraft 2, but 3 sucked, Star Craft and Diablo 2 are games you can try your best to stop playing and to play the newer games that arent dated like those but find it impossible.

that made me think of what they did to the necromancers of Guild Wars, Soul reaping once every 10 secs instead of every death of an enemy or monster, even with every monser i would get energy it wouldn't last very long since I'm a Touch Blood Necro.

Re: Games that made you hate the developers

Quake 3 Team Arena Expansion Pack     - ID Software: The multiplayer was broken a few months after the game was released and they never fixed it.. Apparently some bug that was causing the master server browser to crash and so nobody could connect to any servers.  I recently installed Gamespy / Mplayer to see if anybody was still playing Q3TA (the in-game server browser is totally fubar now), and there wasn't a single person... But there are still about 3,000 or more people playing Quake 3 Arena..  They totally ruined the expansion pack.. It wasn't that bad of a game either, but I would have liked being able to play it online!! Never got a chance to unfortunately since I bought it over a year after it came out..

The original Q3A is still interesting, the freeze tag mod  is quite addicting and as far as I know, isn't in any of the other games..

M.A.X. - Interplay  This game crashed more often than an overclocked pentium running Windows 95 stuffed with every bit of mal-ware known to man...  You couldn't even finish a single game, let alone the campaign.. The multiplayer was TERRIBLE..

M.A.X. 2 - Interplay I was on the Beta team, and at least they fixed 99.99% of all the crashes! Yay! But playing this game online? You've got to be kidding! There was no more than about 20-35 people playing the game online after the first month it was launched.  Reason? Games took HOURS and HOURS to finish.. Nobody wants to play an 8-hour long multiplayer game where nobody takes any breaks!!  The game was confusing as hell, and units would randomly disappear as they went behind foliage.. VERY annoying!! The real-time option didn't feel real-time at all, but was a hack to get a turn-based game into something like Red Alert 2.. Didn't really work well...

Star Trek: New Worlds - Interplay Another buggy crashy game from Interplay. I was on the Beta team, and I kept telling them that if they don't get the bugs fixed, this game is going to totally tank..  I filled out hundreds of bug reports and the developer team got so overwhelmed, and they wrote a proposal to push the game release date back by a year.. Unfortunately, their license to use Star Trek wasn't going to last that long and the higher-ups weren't going to renew it..  So the higher-ups at Interplay fired the whole group, canceled the Beta, and then released the game anyway!!! Yes, the game was still Beta when it was released on the shelves with hundreds of unresolved bugs!! Sooooo freaking stupid!!
After that, the game got a 15/100 review from PC Gamer as being "worst game of the year".. Huge internal scandal with the higher-ups in the company..

Eventually they went out of business and shut the website down.. Couldn't believe it.. They were my favorite company.. Made some really great games in their time such as Descent, Fall Out, and Starfleet Academy.

Whaaaat? Are you kidding me? Warcraft III is AWESOME! The multiplayer with the custom maps.. I've played it for almost 3 years non-stop.. The Warcraft III Defense of the Ancients map is the best multiplayer team-strategy game ever and I'm willing to argue this with anybody..  Not only do you plan "ganks" and "jukes" to totally mess with the other team, but you also have your teammates to help bail you out of trouble ( and they do.. instead of other games where your teammates are like.. "HAHA U DIED!! NOOB!" ).. If there is no teammwork, then you lose, everytime with 100% certainty. Which suprisingly makes everybody work as a team nearly every game.  No one person with uber-skills can win the game which makes DOTA one of the best multiplayer & cooperative team-strat games ever in my opinion. Of course this is just ONE of the thousands of custom maps for Warcraft III

There are maps for Anime Mauls (tower defense), Anime Hero battles (using anime powerups and such), Maps where people play roles and re-enact games such as "300" and Lord of the Rings or even mauls with Final Fantasy models and names.. There is also a custom map called Jurassic Park where you're a little peasent and you have to build your own base with electric fences to protect you from thousands of dinosaurs (custom models, skins, etc can be added to the maps).  There is also a Resident Evil survival where you've got thousands of zombies walking around the map.. I like Dawn Of the Dead a little bit better, but that map is a bit buggy in my opinion..  There is S3-Marines with two maps, one for infiltrating a base finding computer codes and the other is a survival where you just need to survive for 45 mins (pretty damn hard because you have to keep moving to find the ammo that the downed choppers drop)..  Hmm.. Trying to think of other maps that I play.. I've been playing Pudge Wars and Shopping Maul.. Oh and a Korean RPG Warcraft III map called "Dark Lineage".. That's pretty cool, especially
the dual-katanas!! Great custom models though I think the Jurassic Park maps have better custom skins Stick out tongue

Most of the bigger maps especially the RPGs have a -save / -load function which gives you a special code that is locked into your username.. It contains information about your EXP and gold that you collected and you just host it again and -load your code.. Pick up right where you left off!

Warcraft III is really an awesome game and most people miss out that you could spend years playing the custom maps!!  I got bored of the regular game a LONG time ago, in fact I didn't even finish the campaign..  But I bought the expansion just to play more custom maps with more models including the Starcraft Marines models.. Which are pretty cool in a lot of the custom maps that are based on some movies  Yes

Edit: Sorry lots and lots of edits, this is my 10th edit ><

well with id software you have to realize, at the time of the release they only had 18 employees (22 now) and their publishers (raven, activision) are the ones who fix that stuff, they just add stuff like with q4 and adding dual core support (multithreaded patch) other then that id works on games and making them, they dont have enough manpower to fix'em unless its something really really big.

BF2 - EA Games   Don't get me wrong, do love the game, but I've never seen such bad patches and so many glitches and bugs in a release.  Besides those things, and don't get me wrong, I know a lot of developers are doing it, but paying for every stinking expansion pack and new map pack?  That's crazy, along with releasing the same bugs in a sequel game only a year after the first one came out that you still haven't fixed.  Ugh.

SWG - Sony Online Entertainment  ...  do I have to rant about this?  I had just really gotten into the game, got my character figured out, was finding the stuff I wanted to do... and they go and completely totally change the entire game!?  Screw you lol  I was very scarred from playing another mmporg for a long time... but I seem to have found a new zen in LOTRO

I didn't get BF2142 because of all the controversy about the in-game ads.. A few months later, everybody including myself just sorta forgot about the game and moved on with life lol..

Oh yea, I hate Sony also.. Why do they have to region code all the games??? I can play Japanese games on my Dreamcast, why can't I play Japanese games on my PS/PS2 without a mod chip? I feel like a criminal just because I want to buy another copy of a game I already have in a different language.. I get ripped-off on international shipping and import prices (think $85 per game) and then after that I need to install a moddchip just to play a Japanese game on my PS2. Mind you, it's the second copy of a game I already have but just in a different language... So stupid..
