I see that there are a lot of very creative modders and projects here in this forum section, which is why I'd like to ask.. 

What are simple things I can do to make my rig unique/stand out (exterior)?

There is real no quick answer to this at all. Most of the answers that you would get are etched side panels to paint, for the exterior, or even adding vents and fans to the system.
