    Need help choosing a drive

Some of you all know I already have bought the below, but still debating on what graphic card to get. Anyway I need an optical drive..., one that reads and writes CDs & DVDs, and if it does blu-ray or light scribe that's a plus, but not a must have. I've read at some places on the net that some drives are not working with windows 7, so can anyone recommend a good one 100% compatible to buy please!Intel core i7 920 bloomfieldwindows 7 home editionwestern digital caviar black 640corsair dominator 6gb memoryantec earthwatts 750Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid TowerGIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD5 LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Motherboard

I don't see why there would be incompatibility issues between Windows 7 and DVD drives. Vista didn't have any issues except in the start and they're all fixed now. Since 7 uses pretty much the same driver set as Vista, I would just buy the cheapest DVD drive that fits your needs. They're really cheap nowadays anyway.

I went back and I think I misunderstood it, I think people were having trouble with the software the drives came with. well, can someone at least suggest a cd/dvd writer that is reliable and comes with compatible software?

There isn't a whole lot of software that is Windows 7 certified yet, but Nero 8 seems to be pretty good. Here is a DVD burner with it bundled:

Although Nero 8 is not officially Windows 7 certified, most reviews and people report that it should run fine.

Yeah, but you have to shell out $80 for it.

Try Nero 8 first- if that doesn't work you can get an upgrade to Nero 9 for only $40, which is still cheaper than just buying an OEM drive and then getting Nero 9 separately.

Nero 9 also has a free trial available if interested.  I personally do not use Nero as their ver 8 was not registering correctly when trying two different retail copies.
