Getting the most for strictly under $550.

I'm building a new computer soon.  No gaming or special application requirements.  Just a fast computer under 500, strictly 550.

I don't need an operating system, separate graphics card, or monitor/peripherals.

Please review, amend, edit, and verfiy the following build to be compatible.  Just a second opinion.

Well, we can't see what you have for your $550.00 build because it comes up "This wish list is empty."

This might help you a little so we can see it: How to create a public wishlist [guide]

The first question that comes to mind is: Why is there 2 DVD burners in your Wish List? (1 SATA and 1 IDE)

    Anyway...

I re-vamped your set-up (by quite a bit). Taking out what you really might not need. Changing some of the parts. Then pushing others "up the line" a bit.

Grand Total including the $29.01 shipping charge in the Shopping Cart is $502.95.

The case is now the Cooler Master Sileo with a 500 watt power supply already mounted in the case. It has all the correct connections to make everything work. The case has 2 120mm 800RPM case fans mounted. 1 in front and 1 in back. This should be a good quiet computer.

I left in the Lite-On SATA DVD burner with lightscribe. But took the IDE burner out.

The hard drive is now the Western Digital Caviar Black 500GB with a 32mb cache.

The motherboard is still the same Gigabyte UD2H.

The CPU is now the AMD Phenom II 545 3.0GHz. Dual-core which is faster than the Athlon II you had chosen. This is in a combo with 4GB of G.Skill "Ripsaw" DDR3 1333MHz. memory with good timings of 7-7-7-21 needing 1.5 volts to get them there (Rule of Thumb: The lower the CAS and timings, the faster the memory.) Since the memory only needs 1.5 volts and the motherboard will start out at 1.8 volts, you'll have to turn the voltage down on the memory in the bios once you get it fired up.

    Does that look any better?

One is for my current computer, still buying it all together.  Anyways,  I'm also getting a few 120mm fans, but thats not very much extra money.

Thanks for the revisions, but I'll be honest, that case is pretty fugly.

    What about this guy?

Re: Getting the most for strictly under $550.

The case is good. Power supply is junk. Get the case seperately and get a different power supply.
