OCZ Obsidian PC3 12800 set and P45 chipsets

    OCZ Obsidian PC3 12800 set and P45 chipsets

    Anyone use these together with no incidents?

    P45 chipset motherboards cannot use DDR3 memory such as the RAM you are asking about.  While the number of pins is the same, DDR2 and DDR3 memory cannot use the same memory slots.  You will either damage one part or the other, or you may damage both parts.

    The current motherboard I just purchased supports ddr3 ram.  Gigabyte EP45T-UD3LR is an LGA775 ddr3 motherboard.  The ram is biggest issue because compatibility is a must anymore.

    Here is a link to the info on the MB.   I was not aware the were any LGA775 motherboards with ddr3 support until recently.  I am just glad I dont have to buy another CPU.

    I had forgotten that there were P45 mobos that use DDR3, sorry about that.  There are not many of them but they do exist.

    Oh its cool.....I love my q9650 cpu.  I did not want to upgrade to something else at the moment.   I just wanted DDR3 ram because it runs better and cooler.  Plus I wanted ram to match my 1333FSB.

     

    I guess I will just wait to try it out.
