remote desktop issues. please check this out.

    Hey folks.
I'm hope you guy/girls can help me with an issue I'm having with remote desktop.
I'm trying to set up and so far i've:
*given my pc a static ip on the lan
*Set up my router (netgear DG834G, it's actually a dsl modem/router)
I added the service (port 3389, tcp and udp)
I set up the router firewall to accept incoming
I went to the Windows 7 remote desktop properties and
    checked allow connections.
I used whatsmyip.com to find out the router IP. I typed the ip in remote desktop with the :3389 at the end and no luck. I though it might be windows firewall so I gace permissions to remote desktop. That didnt work either. I ended up shutting down remote desktop all together.
I think it might be an issue with Microsoft Security essentials but i'm not sure how to configure that.
    Am i missing something here?
    Please help!

whatsmyip.com can not tell you your routers IP, only your ISP's.

Open  Network connections on your pc, double click your router, it should open to your routes setup properties, look at the adress bar, your IP should be right there, but by all means, you need the IP of the PC your connecting to, not your routers. In your routers setup page it should give a list of all the IP's being used, or just look the IP up in windows.
