Hey everyone, I installed a new power supply into my computer this evening and the 24 pin connector that goes to the motherboard from the psu is actually two cables, the 20 pin one and the 4 pin connector. Well stupid me was trying to connect that extra 4 pin to the 4 pin connector up near the processor (I assume this is the one that runs power to the cpu) but anyway, this was before I realized that there is a 4 pin connector seperate (the one that has 2 black and 2 yellow wires) so anyway, I turn on the computer and it will start but the cpu fan would start and then die right away, I adjusted the red switch on the psu itself as it was on the lower volt setting and when I turned it on again, I started hearing this sizzling sound and a strong burnt smell as well. I know I fried something. When the computer is on, my monitors power button still blinks as if its in sleep mode, I dont get any activity from the two LED lights on the front of the case either. The power supply fan runs, the cpu fan runs, the video card fan runs, dvd drive opens and closes, 2 hdd's both sound like they are running, just no video and no activity on the lights. So my question is what did I fry? Was it the cpu? I wouldn't think it was the new psu since everything is getting powered but who knows. Either the psu, mobo, cpu or a combination, but what do you guys think?
