Need advice picking out a motherboard...Please...

    Hello,

I was thinking about a new mother board for my system and need some advice on what to get.

I just installed my new video card and tried to install two new sticks of memory.  However, I ended up breaking a slot and only have one working slot now.  I just got Win7 and could use faster RAM and more of it.

The way that my case is set up, it has a tube that channels the hot air off of my CPU out to the side of my case.  I would love to keep this functionality.  There is a link to my old motherboard below if that helps.  (I would need the CPU to be in about the same location.)

    Motherboard:

My price range is anywhere from $80 to $150 depending on quality and such.  I would really like something that is reliable and upgradable should the need arise.  I think that with my new video card, I can have a decent gaming machine that will last for years and years.  ::knocks on wood::

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  (Oh yea, I am fairly new at building computers and I bought this prebuilt.  So I came to the experts.  Or shall I say eggxperts!)

PS. I'm assuming the answer is no, but can I install DDR3 RAM into my current motherboard?

Re: Need advise picking out a motherboard...Please....

Basically, all your ATX boards will have the CPU located right in the same place, area, so that shouldn't be an issue. You'll need a board that will support an older Petium D though. as it's going to also down clock any newer board yoo get with the 800 FSB. IMO< the GIGABYTE GA-EP43-UD3L LGA 775 Intel P43 ATX Intel Motherboard  should be a decent board, and you could toss all kinds of newer nms into it after you want to gain some CPU speed.

    Penewah!

Re: Need advise picking out a motherboard...Please....

Thank you very much, it's good to know that all ATX boards have the CPU in the same spot.

Is the reason that I can't use DDR3 RAM because my processor is too slow?  It would make sense but would like some confirmation.

Also, could I use my old memory in this motherboard?  It is:

    Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;}

    Kingston ValueRAM 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model KVR533D2N4K2/1G - Retail

     Kingston KVR533D2N4 UNB 533MHz 240-Pin Non-ECC CL4 ValueRAM 1GB

What if I used this 2gb RAM card, would this be interchangeable between the two motherboards?:

Also, what does nms mean?  Network Monitoring Service?  Maybe something dealing with getting a faster CPU down the road?  I'm intrigued...

Is my videocard overkill with my slow processor?  Maybe I should just return it so I can afford a nicer mother board or an upgraded PSU.

Overall, the motherboard looks very nice and am seriously considering buying it.  If my old RAM worked, that would make the deal even sweeter!

Thanks again for your advice.  Sorry for all the follow ups.  If anyone could help answer, I would be greatly appreciative.

Will this MoBo fit my case?  (including the fan meant specially for my processor)  How about the rest of my rig.

I'm just not sure if the fact that it is a Micro ATX will make a difference.

    Thanks!
