Here's my system:

Core i5 CPU

4GB DDR3 RAM

DVD RW DRIVE

EVGA 260 GTX 216 core

the video card is my main concern. it requirs 500 watt PSU with 36A on a +12v rail.  i'm am a newbie when it comes to system building, and not sure how to make sure i meet the requirements on a PSU.  If someone could give me a suggestion that'd be great.

Do you plan on SLI in the future, then choose a higher PSU.

The video card does not require a 500watt PSU, and it does not require 36 amps.  

Here are the actual specs: 

Max Wattage: 171watts

Max Current Draw: 14.25amps

Just pick out a decent 500-700watt power supply.  Newegg has the OCZ StealthXStream 700watt PSU on sale for $55 right now, that's a good choice. 

And, be sure to check the Eggxpert Tiered PSU list before making a purchase.  Some of the power supplies on Newegg are junk that can damage your computer.
