bearman1:mountain out of a mole hill?i dont think so,if your gonna be this rude,i should have called.i'm sure they wouldnt have been this rude, also for your information they merged in 2003,the drives all over the internet are not blank, they are stamped samsung on the front
Wrong.. The reason OEM drives usually don't contain any markings on them is because it's the system builder's responsibility to provide technical support and drivers.. The fact that Samsung even talks to you on the phone is only because their customer service is exceptional.. But generally, they don't even need to give you the light of day.. OEM drives are for OEMs/ System Builders ONLY.. It is the responsibility of the OEM (system builder) to provide drivers and technical support to the user.. In the situation where the OEM and the user is the same person, it basically means that you're on your own technical support and need to solve your own problems..
A lot of the OEM drives aren't branded because it allows the system builder (HP, Dell, you) to put their own brands on it (like Dell and HP laser engrave their logo on it or ink it on there). That way when people have an issue with the drive they go to you instead of to the drive manuf. with their issue.. This is why the drives are cheaper from the manuf. because the customer service and such is now the system builder's responsibility and not the manuf.'s bill..
You buy an OEM drive for a computer, you are the support contact for that computer.
Retail Samsung drives have "Samsung" branded all over them as it's Samsung's responsibility to provide tech support and such.. If you buy OEM drives, then you take on the role of the OEM and can brand your drives with your own logos / company name and offer tech support to people who buy the computers you make with that drive..
Onboard RAID vs. 3Ware RAIDI never recommend people run RAID-5 with onboard chipsets.
