Can you use two diffrent memory sticks?

Hey I was wondering if you can put a 400DDR (PC3200) 1G RAM stick if a

333DDR (PC2700) 256mb stick is occupying the other slot?

its an older computer, i know. I don't need everyone telling me what I already know

    It depends

DDR memory will work with each other, the higher clock ram will downclock to the lower one.

just make sure that the slot can maximum spport 1GB stick.

Re: Can you use two diffrent memory sticks?

Down clocking would be a bad thing.

Lets say you wanted to show your friend how to go from California to Florida. You're main method of transportation is a bicycle, while your friends main method of transportation is a Ferrari. Since your friend has no idea which way to go, he would need to slow down and match your speed to get from destination A to destination B. This is bad, because you're obviously hindering the full potential of the Ferrari by forcing it to go at bicycle speeds.

That being said, you'll probably notice a performance gain because now you have more memory to deal with. In a metaphorical sense, whereas before you could only carry things by backpack, you now can carry things by backpack in addition to the lovely new trunk space provided by the Ferrari.

That being said, I'd probably dump the bicycle and just ride with my friend in the Ferrari. Or pick myself up a 2011 Lexus LFA.... damn nice car.

    Nice metaphor!

Don't forget you want BOTH modules to be rated for the same Voltage / Timings, if they differ the PC might not even boot.
