    Anyone seen this file befor?

okies... im usualy fairly good about not gettign viruses on my computer.. and always tend to only go to trusted websites and all the other normal things.. But recently i had to re-install my OS because of a computer rebuild.. and as a result.. i had to start downloading all the every-day-use programs like winrar, quicktime, java, flash.. the usual.

Well, a few minuts ago my AVG scanner finished its scan.. and inside the Winrar folder and zip that i got from the officialy winrar website it found a file called "generic14.bnmi"  That it flagged as a Trojan / Virus.  Now.. ive never seen this file befor in any virus results and ive used Winrar befor on the previous install and ive never seen this reported.. and doing a google search for it came up practialy dry.  Anyone know just what this is?.. AVG stuck it in its vault.. so its 'safely' tucked away.  But im honestly currious as to just what this thing is.

I just downloaded it from CNET and checked the files and that one was not there, so first off where did you download it from and second I have seen the "generic" file before in a game bought straight off the shelf at a well known department store and it would not load due to a Trojan/virus was found so I took it back after exploring the disc and finding that was a file some use to hide search and info gathering programs in as well as other stuff.

Well like i said.. i got the download from Winrar's actual website.. so no idea why it'd be there unless their own servers have been attacked by someone.

Re: Anyone seen this file befor?

Well as I said before it could be one of their info gathering programs or a disgruntaled employe trying to get back at them or a true Trojan/virus.

You don't want winrar anyway.  Go with 7-zip.
