cagg thats not the idea, the school is putting it on to help some of the kids who dont know much about computers and the community behind them, so im helping organize this to help show them and they are not REQUIRED to pay anything if they want to donate money out of their own will its up to them

    yes and no cagg

the ROP is non profit, so it is technically a charity, and it is a "lan" because there will be many avid gamers there including myself and a few locals including some you have met at various lans

So basically ur getting together with 2 or 3 friends to play free (lame) games on a ROP / Work LAN to show ROP what a "LAN reallly is".

Never mind that ppl at real LAN's plan actual popular games and swap files, on actual gaming capable PC's, and they usually pay a nominal charge to support the LAN.

haha, I know right. If you're hauling your gear to a LAN party, you're not going to be playing that junk..

Going to a LAN party and playing some real games though, that's a whole 'nother story.. The club at my college used to charge $15 admissions and charged high prices on food&drink to raise money for the club and prizes..  Of course, you could always bring your own stuff..   Some of the bigger LAN parties I've been to have charged up to $50 a seat + table space or $25 for just a seat for the weekend.

One time the gaming club had a LAN party in the computer lab (with permission of the school's admin who was also active in the club)...  Brand new computer lab with integrated graphics, but was just enough to play some of the classics..  The problem with doing it that way though is there are just too many darn rules that apply in the school's computer lab... No food or drinks at the computer, etc. etc...

    Onboard RAID vs. 3Ware RAID

I never recommend people run RAID-5 with onboard chipsets.

no we are expecting about 25 people to come and only about 3-5 of us are bringing computers and the rest will be using the computers in the computer Lab

    Re: Charity Lan games needed

While non-free games are obviously best, here are some you can use: Open Arena, WOLFENSTEIN: Enemy Territory, and WARSOW.

    I happily buy tech! Why wouldn't I?
