    Complaint: Money order sent back


    I just got a letter from Newegg. I thought it was unusual, so I opened it to find my USPS money order along with a letter saying "we are unable to process this check because the item that you have ordered is not available currently". You can imagine my surprise and frustration when I checked the receipt, and it was for a 3-month old pre-order for two copies of Windows 7 Home Premium (back at the $49.99 price). I couldn't use my credit card back then because it had an expiration date that was between the time I ordered and the time Windows 7 comes out- so it was refused, and I had to use a money order.

    Newegg had no problem holding my money order (which doesn't expire, btw) for over 3 months, but now that we are weeks away from having Windows 7 shipped out, they send me back my money order. 

    I was told by Newegg staff that they can't process payments until an order is available. Yet when I ordered, it quite clearly said, "We must receive your payment within 7 days of the day you placed your order, or your order will be cancelled." Not wanting to miss out on the discounted pre-order pricing, I immediately sent out a money order.

    I was told by Newegg staff to mail them back the money order when the order is available. But then I'll get Windows 7 much later than expected.

    This is a mess that I wouldn't have expected from Newegg. 

     

    Update 11/3/2009:

    In case you don't feel like reading, I resent my money order, it got lost, it was found, and I got my order Smile, about 12 days late Sad.

    I also just got an email from someone at Newegg after reviewing my negative reseller rating. He said in his email, "when you place Pre-Orders our site advises not to send them in until notified." I figured I must be wrong, maybe I overlooked something, so I placed another pre-order (which I later canceled) and went through carefully to try to find out where it says this. The site never says this. In fact. the site says the opposite "Payments must be received within 7-days of placing an order", and then elsewhere I find "We must receive your payment within 7 days of the day you placed your order, or your order will be cancelled [sic]."

    And just another tip for Newegg- when an already frustrated customer leaves a negative reseller rating, the last thing he wants is to hear is a newegg rep try to prove him wrong. "when you place Pre-Orders our site advises not to send them in until notified." Um... no, the site doesn't. It says the opposite. I'm through with you Newegg! Did you hear me!? THROUGH! Never again will I buy something from... ooh wait, whats this? A 780G based mATX mobo with HDMI for $59.99 AR with free shipping? Damn! Tongue Tied Ok, so maybe I'm not through. But there's always next time! ;)

    You have to send in payment when the item is available dude. Pre-order copies of W7 are still on hold, mine are.

    What Newegg told you was what it is.

    Just send it back in, like they instructed, and wait till W7 actually comes in.

    You've jumped the gun a bit, and mis-interpreted their policies.

    No misinterpretation. It quite clearly said I had 7-days after placing my order to send them the payment, or else it would be canceled. 

    And why did they hold the money order for 3 months with no problem and then wait until just now to send it back? Why not send back the money order immediately? Or better yet, why not keep the money order for another couple weeks? It doesn't expire, and the Windows 7 release is just around the corner.

    What I seem to be getting from Newegg is a "too bad". What I want is a "we'll look into making changes to make sure something like this doesn't happen again".

    i am sorry to hear that man but no use in being upset because of the policy of them not cashing the money order till its the actual item is in their warehouses in stock, like i said it can be frustrating but this is why this forum is here i'm sure dom or wyld will be more than happy to make it right even though now it'll be monday but whats a few days wait if its been months already? oh yah we're not employees of newegg only people with eggstaff under their av atre. why not just get a new cc?

    As far as I know, u should send newegg the payment within 7 days after the "pre-order" has been transferred to a "normal order", which means you have to send in the payment when the item is atually in their stock, or else, they should send back the payment to you within a certain period or hold it for a while, not sure how this works...so u may as well send back the payment when windows 7 is actually in stock as suggested by Penewah. but better contact newegg customer service to make this clear, live chat is open 24/7hrs now. glSmile

    Just a follow up:

    I chatted with customer service, and they said to send them back the money order when it can be turned into a normal order. It was frustrating, but all it took was another envelope and a first-class stamp and a drive to the post office. No biggie.

    So, I re-sent back the money order about a week or two before the 22nd in anticipation of them being able to receive it and cash it once Windows 7 was officially released. But by the 27th, I noticed the order still hadn't shipped, so I went back to live chat to check the status of my order.

    I was basically told that they lost the money order and they needed the serial number to track it down. I provided the serial number, and they said that they would send me an update in 24 hours.

    Well, it's now November 1. I never got an update from Newegg. If I don't get an update tomorrow, I'll just go to the post office and see what they can do about lost money orders (I think as long as I have a receipt, they can refund it). Then I'll be forced to spend twice as much for a single copy of Windows 7. Yey.

    The entire blame can't be definitely placed on Newegg (since USPS could have lost it, who knows), but if they would have just held onto it for another few weeks initially, there would have been no need to send it back to me, no need for me to re-send it back to them,  there wouldn't be a lost money order probably sitting in some filling cabinet somewhere, and I would be a happy Windows 7 user on the 22nd.

    Instead, a week and a half after the release of Windows 7, I'm forced to write my first negative ResellerRatings.com review against an otherwise awesome company. :(
