    RAM prices, just me or...

as topic said, ram prices seem to be rising again after their downfall

months ago you could get 4GB kit of ram for about $40-45 (generally good brands)

now I see those kits are about $60 now

so what im saying there has been basically been a $15-20 raise in ram prices over the last few months

this is for DDR2, not sure on DDR3 prices

Yes the last 2-3 months the price on the memory market has been moving ddr2 prices up, there was a fair spike up in August.  The wholesale price of ddr2 is now almost equal with ddr3.  The analyst's are saying once ddr3 prices dip below ddr2 (per gb) it will only accelerate in price difference as the makers will focus on ddr3, much like what happened from ddr1 to ddr2.

The Good Times Are Over, there was a huge GLUT of DRAM on the market, and companies stopped making as much. 6 months later, the prices are auto-correcting upwards.

Re: RAM prices, just me or...

Yes.  There was something on the memory makers shaking out some of the underfunded makers getting eaten by other fish, as well as converting over to DDR3 production.  That means DDR2 supplies will now start to fall (but so too will demand) and like DDR and SDRAM they will gradually and then more rapidly start to climb in price.

So now is probably the time to max those old DDR2 systems at bargain prices.  Otherwise I would expect 4Gb (2 x 2Gb) to cost over $100 (in 2009 dollars) in a couple of years.

Oh so bad although it still enjoy the performance/price ratio but not that compelling any more maybe it is time to think about a new rig with DDR3.

That's what happens when memory companies switch all their manuf. over to DDR3 and continue to  slowly sell off their DDR2 inventory at market value. DDR2 prices will likely continue to rise and some of the best memory sticks (lowst latency and highest speed at lowest voltages) will become unavailable with no plans of ever coming back into stock again..

I mean, this is it for DDR2, people..  Intel has moved their entire product line over to DDR3 now that 1156 is out..  Sure, 775 boards and AM2+ boards that take DDR2 are still going to be sold, but as a memory company, you're going to want to be competing where the market is going to be and that's DDR3.

I never recommend people run RAID-5 with onboard chipsets.

"According to DRAMXchange, DRAM prices are steadily increasing and it’s unlikely the trend is going to reverse.

According to PCWorld, memory prices might come down later this year when PC production slows down, but it’s unlikely we are going to see the same prices as of now. Besides, the release of Microsoft Windows 7 in October is sure to create a rush among new PC buyers, and the price might never come down after all."

DDR2/DDR3 prices increasing. Make your purchases NOW!
