Great Drive- Well Worth the Price

white Reviewed By: Shenanigans on 7/25/2009Rating + 5 Tech Level Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: 1 day to 1 weekThis user purchased this item from Newegg Pros: 7 Year Warranty, RAID Class, lot of space, 32MB cache, quiet, one of the fastest drives on the market.Cons: Not as cheap as the consumer modelsOther Thoughts: Dropped it in my Mac Pro and had it running instantly. It's a bit faster then my WD 750GB Blue. It is still the loudest component of my computer but so much quieter then the WD. I can barely hear it. Picked it up for $120 with the free Seagate 500GB drive. Sold that and dropped the cost down to $90. I will be picking up a few more in the coming months and setting up some RAID for video storage. Reasons to get Windows 7:
    Snap to maximize windows
    Formatting huge hard drives
    It's Vista but better

The ASUS M4A78-E sucks, don't get it.

Yeah I have been seeing this in my searches for a few days now... hmm maybe a few weeks? can't remember. Anyways it looks like a Nice deal. i was thinking it was bad compared to just grabbing a 1.5TB BUT if you wanted to upgrade 2 computers Then it is a nice buy.. also that 7 year warranty is worth something... I however usually do not place much value in warranties.

... Now that I think of it, I can get two Hitachi 1TBs for $75, and I freaking love these hard drives.

these are RAID edition so you would have to buy 2  unless you dont raid then you wouldn't buy these anyway.

AFAIK, RAID class is just a marketing term for Samsung's "high reliability" "enterprise class" drives, and they don't need to be put in a RAID.

If what you're saying is correct, wouldn't that indicate that they *should* be put into a RAID (because Samsung's "RAID" is just, in essence, a marketing term)?

    I pwn n00bs.

The same way that enterprise class drives should be put in an enterprise.

The same way that Western Digital "Green" drives should be put in "Green" cases and their "Black" drives should be put in "Black" cases...

    Keep it going..Egyptian

I'd imagine the "RAID" branded drives are just cherry-picked off the assembly line high reliability drives.. Not high performance or high efficiency.. Just really high reliability..  That 7 year warranty should clue in to that..

    Onboard RAID vs. 3Ware RAID

I never recommend people run RAID-5 with onboard chipsets.

Pretty nice deal. How likely do you think it is the price will drop?

When I left you, I was but the learner. Now I am the master. And that, was that.

Probably never, the Hitachi(s) I mention get hot easily (where I live), so having two of those close together overheats them constantly.
