Sidicas:Hehe, back in the days when I played LORD, I was doing it on a 2,400 baud modem (2.4kbps) and so I didn't have a chance to become impatient on the input since I spent all my time waiting on the PC.. Now that everything is lightning fast, it kills the nostalgia and I don't have to sit there waiting for the text to scroll up on the screen one line at a time..
And for the life of me, I can't seem to get it to look right in Putty.. I know the game looks a lot better once you get your terminal set up right.. Honestly, it looked a lot better on my dad's old 20 Mhz running Procomm than it does on my 2.0 Ghz Pentium M.. So I think something is wrong with my Putty terminal. I tried all the different terminal emulators and it didn't seem to make a difference. The splash screen and everything is all colored ASCII characters when I know it should be blocks of color (like legos)..
Luckily I'm here to help you out.. and share some overall news:
First off, the website for this has been updated. The old link still works (above), but it just redirects you to the new page:
http://lord.fizzworld.org (same address used for telnet, except http in this case obviously)
If you go there, you will see a few things that may be of interest:
1) A way to use Windows telnet instead of PuTTY. I personally think it works better. And you won't have the same issues with graphics. (Click the "Connect" link)
2) The proper way to set up PuTTY, so it doesn't look like b*** ***e. (Click the "PuTTY" link)
3) A Java Applet that connects right to the server from the web. (Click the "Web" link). This will look great also... in fact, it might even look better than all the others. Definitely worth checking out.
In response to your old modem, yeah those were the days.. I played on a 14.4 modem... we later upgraded to a 56k, but that was when the internet started coming into play. If you'd like, I can lock down one of the nodes to be super slow for ya ;) (No, I'm not really going to do this. haha)
