Worst PC game you have ever played?

So we've heard and seen the best, but what about the worst?

Let's give it a little space hereSmoking

    Discuss and state why.

    Dreamfall: The Longest Journey

Biggest waste of my time ever. The entire game was disappointing. Very little excitement. It was more like reading a book. Not that reading a book is bad, but I expected different from a computer game. The ending was also severely disappointing.

I googled this and recognized the gameplay from a game (must be the same one) my friend was playing a few years ago on the XBox 360.  I remember telling her that the gameplay was a bit boring and the purple gorilla sounded like Tom Bosley.

Pod by Ubisoft...  F-Zero, made 10 years earlier for the SNES, kicked Pod to the curb..

Hate to say it, but also "Star Trek: New Worlds" was also a horrible title...  I think the worst score that any Star Trek game had ever gotten..  I was so looking forward to it being a great game and was horribly disappointed.. It was literally impossible to finish the entire game because of a bug in one of the campaign missions, it turns out that nobody at Interplay even played the game from beginning to end before it was released onto the shelves.

Interplay went out of business a couple years later, but they're back from the dead now, running off of funds acquired through licensing fallout intellectual property to another company.

I thought "Prey" was a pretty lame game, as it seemed it could have been a decent one but the designers just didn't develop it out well. Repetitive nonsense. Then again, how much of a plot can a writer develop by kidnapping 3 indians of a reservation bar, when there aren't any! lol.

But it the worst, by far.

Re: Worst PC game you have ever played?

It's a new one. Command And Conquer: Red Alert 3. I downloaded it from steam, played the tutorial and that was it. I didn't like the idea that I had to have a PHD in resource management to play. I thought I'd like it since I played the original C&C's and Red Alert's on my old PC's all hours of the day and night. I even started it up and tried to play online, but I lasted all of 5 minutes and then 7 minutes before being tank rushed and destroyed. I should have taken the 50 bucks and donated it to charity.

Re: Worst PC game you have ever played?

There was this game: Cyberia: Mission Norway, I think.   Sorta like adventure, except you had no clues that something was amiss, up until you went up in a fireball and had to replay entire 10-15 minute game section,  And it was peppered with those excruciatingly long action sequences when a single mistake would  get you blown up - and you had to replay from start.    I tried slogging through it,, hoping it'l get to something intertesting, then read someplace entire game was this way - at which point I dumped it.

Ever since I played this game... I never once complained about how buggy a game was...

I will admit... i knew how bad the game was and got it just to see how bad it was...

Out of a game I bought to actually play and was hoping to be good..

The worst I think I played on PC was probably Secret Service.  I couldn't get past the first sequence on it.  I still don't know where all they were firing from but they tore me up.  I tried this 2-3 diff occasions and just never loaded it up again.

Re: Worst PC game you have ever played?

I'm sure there are plenty out there, but as far as games I bought, the one that takes the cake for me is...

    STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl

This game was delayed for years and so hyped up so I decided to buy it. Game play was clunky and buggy. Saved games were constantly lost due to bugs, the audio was c**p, especially the gun sound effects. Graphics looked like a game from four years earlier (except the lighting effects, that was pretty good).

Online play was horrendous ! There was so much lag (and no, it wasn't just me) that the characters looked like that old "vibrating tabletop football game" from long ago...just sliding and skipping in a jerking motion across the screen. Never was there a game where there was no lag.

Single player was boring.. granted there was a few parts when you are  confronted with some mutated creature for the first time that is surprising.. but after a little while it just loses the effect. The missions were for the most part were totally boring. In the end, the game's attempt to mix role playing and first person shooter style game play was a big flop in my book. Add on the constant lose of your saved games and having to replay the boring missions.. it got old real quick.

Even after patching it a few times it never did run like a finished product, in the end I gave up on it only after a short time and it now collects dust in my attic.

Re: Worst PC game you have ever played?

Oh god, I was ROFLing at Kocrachon's video he posted. Wow, that is bad.

I would have to say, one of the biggest disappointments for PC was DRIV3R.

They practically used the outdated textures from Stuntman for PS2 and put it in a game 3 or so years later.

No ragdolls, you were a stiff dummy when falling, the draw distance for people and cars was way off. You'd see people 50 feet in front popping up.

Only plus side I can find was that it was cool blowing up cars, using infinite mass in Istanbul with a  motorbike, and being chased by the crazed Timmy Vermilcellis in their impossibly torqued tractor trailers. They drove like they had infinite friction O.O

They put so much money into a horrible GTA rip off. One of the worst games I've played.

Could not get the hang of that game for the life of me: it was so different than the RTS I was used to (C&C, etc). But my roommate wanted to play online so I got discouraged before ever trying single player.

Re: Worst PC game you have ever played?

Company of Heroes is my favorite game at the moment, simply because no good RTS has been out in a while and it has some of the best tactical combat in an RTS ever. I for one never got into the Supreme Commander franchise. I don't like the large scale battles where everything is just a peon.

I also did not like Dawn of War 2... it was the complete opposite, you hardly had ANY units.

CoH is a great blend of balance and tactics.

Re: Worst PC game you have ever played?

Well this is a pretty interesting topic.. I'll need some time to think about this one, since I have played so many games. (Many of which were not long-lived by any means, but a pick up, try, and say "no thanks" kind of thing…)

It's interesting to see the dynamic in here. Maybe I'm getting old (yay my birthday is on Sunday!) Woohoo but I notice a lot of you listing 'relatively' new games. Obviously, that doesn't disqualify them from being bad, but going back a little ways I can remember how 'bad' games really WERE bad on a fundamental level.

Today, a game can be bad on a number of levels, but mostly it misses marks when gameplay is either too tedious or too boring. i.e. "oh man! Another generic shooter?!" Yawn

But there are a number of other levels that concern developers also. Graphical and audio presentation really come into play. If game development gets delayed too long, as with the 'stalker' post above, then the game suffers because the presentation lacks behind other games. There are also a number of other factors… price, length, how good the ending is.. Even delivery options - What platform(s)? Is it available for download? All these can be tied to a game's demise. The list goes on...

Back in the day, this playing field was much more level. All games generally dealt with the same level of graphical and sound capabilities, until 'the next breakthrough in game engines' would come along. But in the day where games only had a few release patterns and all dealt with 8-bit graphics, you had to TRULY have a lemon on your hands to botch a game. I mean, it REALLY had to suck. :)

First to mind is a game called Dragon's Lair for the NES system. This game was truly awful. Rather than explain while, I'll link to this video done by everyone's favorite "Angry Videogame Nerd" fellow.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00xIvTOLrYA&feature=player_profilepage

(Be forewarned, it contains foul language)

I'll keep thinking to see if I have any others to top that.

(Man these <fill-in-the-blank>-of-all-time questions are tough! This is why they are normally limited to a specific interval… like… worst game of 2009?)
