SAMSUNG Black 22X DVD Burner Black SATA Model SH-S223B - OEM $26.99 <-- this will save some cash there and there not that bad I have one.

He should be up and running well on this budget one. As for the burner, you listed an OEM one there. He wanted retail to include the software, etc. I personally use my own CD/DVD burning software, but he wanted it included. So the $5 difference will pay off. The Blu-Ray is also a retail version, but it's not a burner. I got my Blu-Ray combo drive (included CD/DVD burner and lightscribe) for $89 on sale, retail, but ones I've seen to do both are $100+ so the dual drives is a decent option since similar prices.

Not a problem at all.

They come with a low budget Nero edition of software the OEM optical just don’t come with a cable is all and that nice box. Yep BR is spendy IMO and well it’s better to have the actual player on an OLED screen it comes out fantastic looking. The top three BR players are the PS3, LG BD390 and a Sony. I just got the Now I have to save up and get an OLED screen at 52".
