    Is WoW worth It

Hey guys, i'm on my way to finishing a pretty decent computer and i'm trying to figure out what games i would like to play. I already know what shooting games i would like to play, but as far as MMO-RPGs, i been thinking about whether or not i would like to play it. So my question is is it worth it. Does i take long o get fun, is it hard to make friends, and any thing else that might sway my thinking. Also suggestions for any other MMO-RPGs would be great. THANKS

    Re: Is WoW worth It

To me it is not worth it, I have tried wow and did not care for it, I play a game called conquer online. There is more stuff to do, and better features in the game, you can level you character up to 137, and there is monthly events that give away free stuff. But everyone else has there own opinions, so if you want to try wow go for it, I am not holding you back, you might like it.

Well it depends on how much you want to get into an MMO? WoW is no longer the technical MMO it use to be, it got watered down and turn into a very casual game. Its a lot more about the social interaction and the raiding in large groups for the large instances. And to be honestly its slighlt easy. But its huge and its still really fun doing the raids and such. I play on and off, I only have a level 65 priest and a 6 shaman.

As for other MMOs, nothing really good out there except champions online. Im not in the Beta but it looks really promising and I cant wait for it.

WoW is a good game for the casual gamer. But if you want really hard-core and in-depth online gameplay. I'd search around for more open ended MMOs.

    Re: Is WoW worth It

If you don't have tons of time to put into it, then it's not worth it..

If you meet your friends in the game, then it might be worth it..

If you plan to play it less than 8 hours a week, I don't think you'll be getting your money's worth..

For me, every MMORPG that I see is like a huge time pit that sucks your time down and then when the MMORPG dies, all the time you spent leveling up dies with it..  Then you just start all over again in the next MMORPG..    I just got so sick of that, I don't play any MMORPG anymore..   I *might* consider the next Final Fantasy, but I'd rather play games that are less hamster-wheel like.

    Onboard RAID vs. 3Ware RAID

I never recommend people run RAID-5 with onboard chipsets.

    Re: Is WoW worth It

Personally, I like WoW. I did give it hell for four years though. I didn't start playing it until I was stationed in Korea. All my friends there played it. I used to play City of Heroes, but with the time distance, I couldn't play with my buddies. I would agree with others that its a little more casual than other MMO's. On the other hand, it can take up quite a bit of your time. When you're overseas without family its now big deal. But if you have a family or a more active social life, just keep in mind it might suck you in. I've also played Age of Conan, Lord of the Rings: Online and Star Wars Galaxies. I can't in good conscience recommend SWG based on my experience from back in the day. AoC is ok, but the grind get boring fast. I personally couln't get into LoTRO, but I hear its a great game and can't knock it. Just my few cents...

I really can't see WoW as a game for any casual player. You need to spend quite a lot of time in it before you have a half-decent character you can take to different places with your friends.

Guild Wars is only a bit more towards the casual end. It sort of does this by equalizing people between the meager 20-level skill levels, and most of the "advantages" are just in someone having a bit more strategy to their attacks.

Even as a casual gamer I find Guild Wars waaaay to limiting and got old very very fast..

One good MMO that is good for casual and soloing is Champions Online. I soloed to max level in about a month... Sure I play more than the usaul casual person but its not a grinding game and it tells you where to go to get quest done, none of that searching c**p.

    Plus the customization is good.

    Re: Is WoW worth It

WoW is a great game if you are extremely competitive and have A LOT of time to spend playing.

As others will tell you, WoW is a VERY well made game with an unique feel to the gameplay. It is much more "arcade like" in it's style than other MMO's which is perhaps why so many favor it. As a result you'll never be in game and feel like you're alone. This game is teeming with players and things to do. Unfortunately, everything worth doing (pretty much) takes a lot of your time.

The first 1-60 levels are very interesting and can be great fun for casual gamers as you get to the higher levels however it becomes much more of a group effort in which you really need to have time and patience to team with large numbers of other players. This usually translates to long nights in front of the computer, working your life around the game and less of a "real" social life...but that's most MMO's for ya.

Give it a try, I played it on/off for about 3 years and finally decided I couldn't compete with others at my level and there really wasn't anything left to do but run dungeons/raids and PVP....neither of which I found worth the time sink.

The best way is to try the free trial and see if it's something you would get into. Good luck

    That's what she said...

Too much time to play for my tastes.

    I happily buy tech! Why wouldn't I?

    Re: Is WoW worth It

My kids got me hooked on WoW after i had surgery and was laid up for a few weeks. That has been almost 3yrs now. It is fun if you like the role playing and PvP. I have made several online friends that I talk to regularly on the game. We currently have 3 accounts so we can all play at once. imo it's worth it

    Re: Is WoW worth It

I played through most of 2006 and stopped due to time constraints, but I finally have a little more time this year so i decided to play again and started fresh. The game is very casual friendly now and you can get your $15 worth playing just a few hours a week. There is so much content you can solo almost all the way to 80, but that would be a waste and there are many smaller instances/raids to accomdate almost any style of player. No reason not to play in my mind.
