The Eggxpert Folding @ Home team FAQ

Creating this post per Jcarlos off of the original post to give some more information to people who may want to join in and helpout a great cause! You can find the original post here:  http://www.eggxpert.com/forums/2/54095/ShowThread.aspx#54095

Folding@Home is a project run by Stanford University you can find the homepage here: http://folding.stanford.edu/

When I first started doing this I was afraid it would take up all the processing power of my machine and would make it hard to use. I found however after using it for over a week now that it is set to such a low priority that you will never know it's running. I have been gaming, browing, and emailing etc and have not had any ill effects. The project is ligitimate and obviously does not have any viruses or spyware in the download package. You can find answers to almost any of your questions here at there forum:

    Fodling@Home Forum

The Eggxpert team number is 70567

When you first startup the program it will ask for your username and the team number. You can use whatever you like as a username however I would check the site first to make sure the name hasnt been used. You can do a search for that here:

    Team Stats Page

This project can be fun as well because it ranks the teams and individuals by how much work they have done. You can see our teams score here:

    Team Eggxpert Scores

Finally you can check how many work units we have completed as a team here:

    Team Eggxpert Work Units Completed

If you have any questions about the program or need help please feel free to PM me.

The link to download there many different clients are here:

    Client Download Page

Make sure you read all there FAQs and install instructions!! Happy folding folks lets do some good out there!!

Hey justeric thanks for making this. I just read jcarlos' post about creating this post. Do you think you could turn all the web address's into links like you did with all the diseases? I think it will stand out a lot better so people wont have to search the post to find it.

FYI, you download the work just once per WU, so you can compute offline and upload just once. I don't think it would be too taxing on a dialup modem.

On another note, I don't know if it's just my CPU but 1 WU takes a long time...

Re: The Eggxpert Folding @ Home team FAQ

On one of my pcs, it takes 100 steps for one WU while on another its more. Is there any logic to the difference (CPU type, available memory) or is it just random?

There is some kind of bug here I cannot edit my HTML on this page. Probably has something to do with needing permission to post in this subject. In any case I guess I cannot fix the main post there are a few other things I wanted to fix as well.

Re: The Eggxpert Folding @ Home team FAQ

Have completed 3 wu but cannot upload results. I do not understand the 2 days to do 1 unit. It takes me about 3 hours for a 4000 package. Any info on if the upload server was having probs last week?

Maybe I don't know what a WU is. When I see "27,500 out of 250,000 steps <11>" isn't 250,000 a WU? Or is the WU the first number, and I've done 11 of them (which seems too high)?

No a WU is that entire 250,000 ...You should be thankful thats all you get my WU's are 400 or 500,000 everytime. I think they are different for ppl depending on there computer. My laptop does them as fast as my dual core machines so im thinking for lesser machines they give less work in a WU.

Yea sorry it displays different on the graphical client then it does on the console. In the graphical client it just says xxx/4000 on the console it says the entire 400,000 or 500,000 I do not know why they decided to do it that way.
