    shipping improvements

    1. Stop this per-item shipping policy.  It's a complete rip-off and you're not fooling anyone.  A reasonable person would think that something like a USB stick could just be thrown in with the already ridiculously big box of items you're shipping, but then it adds $5 "shipping" to the total order.  That doesn't even make sense and it's slimey  And if you're going to do that, list items with their shipping price included like eBay does.

It's just a scam so you can nickel and dime people on the small things, or trick them into getting the lower priced item that doesn't have free shipping.  If it's not intended to be a scam, include shipping in all the prices and SORT on it because that's the HONEST thing to do.

    2. UPS sucks and they never leave items outside my door and always require a signature.  They don't even come the same time every day so I don't know when to leave work early.  Have you ever waited at a UPS depot to pick up a package you missed?  It's the most depressing thing in the world, and UPS has terrible customer service.  I would not mind paying a little more for FedEx service, but the cost is ridiculously high in comparison.  I miss the days when FedEx was the free shipping provider.  I imagine you must have a lucrative deal with UPS in order to have switched in the first place, so all I ask is that you either get UPS to shape up or consider hammering out some deal with FedEx.

Buyers are made COMPLETELY aware of the total cost of their order, it's not like they try to cloak the shipping cost so the customer won't notice.  Newegg isn't trying to fool people.  You aren't forced to buy everything here... if the shipping cost is too high for you, buy it somewhere else.  Some items are a great deal, others not so much.  I like your suggestion, but I don't like your cynicism about Newegg's business practices.  They're one of the few honest and reasonable businesses I've come across.

I do wish Newegg had combined shipping, as does everyone else.

As for UPS... I sort of agree, I just don't think FedEx would be any better.  UPS never makes me sign for anything, they just throw the package on my doorstep rain or shine, blistering heat or bitter cold... often without even ringing the doorbell.  I'm always worried someone's going to come by and steal it off my porch or it will get damaged from the weather.  I had a whole $600+ order from newegg shipped here with PC parts so I could build my sister a new computer.. they just left it sitting outside.. never knocked or anything.  I didn't realize it was sitting there until hours later.  But that's not newegg's fault.. you should give the higher ups at UPS a call and complain.. or write to the better business bureau.

One thing Newegg COULD improve on shipping-wise.. is packaging.  It's amazing how poorly packed delicate items like hard drives are sometimes.  A thin layer of bubble wrap around a hard drive, thrown into a box with a few pieces of brown paper.. awful awful awful packing.  Tons of complaints about this.

Let's say you sort a category by "lowest price".  Items will be listed in this order:

Item A: $5 ($5 shipping, not shown until it's in your cart)
    Item B: $8, Free shipping

Even if they aren't trying to purposely fool anyone, it's still incredibly poorly designed to the point of criminally neglectful.

It's our policy not to leave packages outside in areas that to the driver don't seem safe.. I can tell you right now if you live in a muti-unit area and it's not gated then most likely the driver will not just leave it.

next thing you know the customer will call because the package is missing and so on..

You can do a Will Call so you can come pick the package up. lot's of people do that, they have people pick your newegg packaged off the truck and set it aside for you.
