    Car audio system help

I'm getting my first car in a few days and it's a bit of a fixer upper. Nothing too terrible. Everything works great and is all shiny and polished... under the hood. The outside is bruised and scratched and the upholstery is dirty and stained and torn up and the sound system is absolutely terrible.

I know the market for the best of the cheapest car audio systems is constantly fluctuating and I was hoping that some of you might be able to give me some advice when I'm picking out cheap new speakers and subs for my '94 Ford Station Wagon. I'm specifically looking for a configuration that would make my music sound sharp and smooth for my frequent long drives. And with an aux port.

(Please don't rip on my crappy car.)

    --makes fun of your car--

Sony makes a very good "mid line" radio ($100-$180)

--looks at my car--   meh  ......................................   but hey its got 610,000 Miles on it I have an Excuse!!!!!!!!!!!!

As far as cheeper speakers............... hmmm...... I'd go with MA audios, there lower and mid line speakers have really nice sound.

Well if you want a good, yet cheap set, you could try Legacy or Lightning Audio, have tried both and they sound fairly good. Smile

Crutchfield.com will tell you what speakers physically fit into your car...

After that, go buy them from NewEgg or Amazon...

Also, I hope you know how to solder and/or crimp cables.. If not, you better learn fast..  I installed my own car radio at the beginning of this year and didn't have any problems.. Bought everything from crutchfield..  Unless you need a universal mounting kit, a special wire harness and an antenna adapter plug just to install a standard radio, then you'll get better deals than Crutchfield at any site on the web.. It's only when Crutchfield bundles in all the installation hardware you need for free, and you need a ton of it, does it become worth buying from Crutchfield.

    Onboard RAID vs. 3Ware RAID

I never recommend people run RAID-5 with onboard chipsets.

Yeah - crutcfield can be a big help when getting all of the accessories and they make it easy to know what you need. Used to use them for information all the time until I started working as an installer and they have huge databases of all that nonsense.
