    Intel Q6600 Upgrade

So the next step in my upgrades is my Q6600 and i originally thought of going i7 but because of my recent motherboard purchase of http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813188040  that will no longer work. When i bought it was going to buy the next step up but that required me to have an i7 right away which i didnt want to do. So i went with something that would work with my Q6600

I want to go the biggest performance jump possible without going i7. Should i go with http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115130

Your q6600 will overclock to 3.0ghz easy as pie. Just purchase a good cooler like the sunbeam core contact and you will get the same performance as buying that cpu for a whole $30.

    Re: Intel Q6600 Upgrade

Just stick with you Q6600 for a while and then upgrade to a brand new Intel core i7 rig. Q6600 is still a decent processor and has good potential for OCing. Even if you have no intention of OCing, it won't bottleneck your rig.

Have you considered going with the Core 2 Quad 9550 or something in the 8K or 9K series?  They all have the same socket type as your Q6600 so there's a good chance they will work with your mobo.  Check with the manufacturers list of compatible CPU's and decide.

Considering he linked to a q9650 as the cpu he planned on upgrading to I would say yes he has.
